Compared to the harm that we cause to the Earth through our activities, it is completely insignificant. Just think about it, according to official data, every sixth inhabitant of the planet has his own personal car. And if we add to this number public transport: trams, trains, ships and planes, the number is completely incredible. Modern humanity cannot imagine its existence without enterprises, factories, factories and farms. Every year, about 8 million hectares of forest are cut down in the world, tens of billions of animals are destroyed. All of this, individually and collectively, causes irreparable harm to nature, and therefore to our health, because we drink water contaminated with chemicals and breathe air poisoned by exhaust gases.
For the first time, the need to start taking care of nature was seriously discussed at a conference in Stockholm in 1972. After numerous appeals from a huge number of cultural figures to the UN Secretary General, the participants in the Swedish forum were inspired by the idea of awakening people's desire to participate in preserving the ecosystem of our planet. It was then that World Environment Day was invented and approved, which is celebrated every year on June 5th.
The main idea of the holiday is the universal unification of the forces of all countries and peoples of the world. After all, we are all inhabitants of planet Earth. We are all consumers of its resources. You must be able to not only take, but also give. The date June 5 is just a reminder of the need for care; it does not mean that you need to take any measures only on this day. You need to take care of your home globally and daily. Only by uniting can we help our nature. Reducing the amount of harmful emissions into the oceans and air, introducing restrictions on hunting and fishing, properly processing and disposing of waste, and creating parks and reserves are the primary tasks that humanity must fulfill. In Russia, June 5 is also celebrated as Ecologist Day.

World Environment Day (Ecologist's Day) is celebrated on June 5th. International holiday environmental protection was adopted in 1972 by a resolution adopted at the Stockholm Conference concerning environmental issues. Event importance
The reason for this worldwide action was the famous “Cop Appeal” received on May 11, 1971 Secretary General UN, which was signed by 2,200 scientists and cultural figures from 23 countries. They warned humanity about the unprecedented danger threatening it due to environmental pollution. “Either we end pollution, or it ends us,” was the question posed in this appeal. A year later, a world conference on environmental protection took place in Stockholm, which was attended by authorized representatives of 113 countries of the world, including Soviet Union. The conference participants decided to hold World Environment Day annually on June 5th.

It's no secret that with the development of the industrial industry and most other processes of human life, the environmental situation is worsening every day. In every country there are organizations whose main task is environmental protection. These units monitor the state of the environment and carry out various events and campaigns to protect it. In addition, within the UN framework several times a year it is customary to celebrate days for the protection of water, air, and so on.
Similar days of protection for various ecological environments improvements in the environmental situation are aimed at, they serve as a reason for carrying out environmental protection measures. On this World Environment Day, environmental protection campaigns and events are taking place all over the world, calling for people not to ignore the problems of the environmental situation, but to take the path of resolving these problems.
Today it becomes obvious that our future, the future of humanity and the planet as a whole largely depends on our ability to decide the most pressing problems in the field of the environment: pollution, natural or man-made disasters, depletion of biological diversity of resources, destruction of natural and cultural landscapes as a result of negative human impact or natural disasters.
Ecological problem modern world not only sharp, but also multifaceted. It manifests itself in almost all sectors of material production (especially in agriculture, the chemical industry, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, nuclear energy), is relevant to all regions of the planet.
The global consequences of habitat disruption have affected all countries, as ecological problems“do not recognize” state borders. Therefore, they can only be resolved with broad international cooperation. Acting in this direction, the international document “World Conservation Strategy” was adopted.
Nature conservation strategy
The World Conservation Strategy is a wildlife conservation strategy announced (March 5, 1980) by most countries of the world, prepared by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and natural resources(IUCN) with consultation, cooperation and financial support from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the World Fund wildlife(WWF), UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), UNESCO and other international non-governmental organizations.
The main goals of the WSOP boil down to identifying the most important needs for nature conservation; determining ways and methods to ensure them; identifying ecosystems and animal species most in need of emergency measures on security; an accessible explanation of the reasons behind the need for timely adoption of measures to protect nature and indication of sources of information on these issues, conveying to the highest levels of the public the idea that nature conservation is one of the integral elements of the process of balanced (sustainable) socio-economic development. VSOP offers a system of rational methods for managing human activities in the use of biosphere resources and individual ecosystems, which are its main elements, in such a way that it provides the greatest opportunities for the reproduction of biosphere resources that are necessary to meet the needs and development of future generations.
The information network, as well as the process of globalization, which gives rise to dramatic changes in economic and social terms and at the same time many environmental problems, can and should be useful in combating these problems. They must be based on a sound strategy for improving the environmental situation and on supporting informed public opinion aimed at protecting the environment. Education and attracting public attention to issues, and above all, environmental issues, are of paramount importance.
