Violating these rules means deliberately delaying the moment of reduction of clinical symptoms and recovery.

What you can and cannot eat if you have a stomach ulcer

This disease is characterized by increased acid-forming function of the organ with the release of large quantities of hydrochloric acid and pepsinogen into its lumen with gastric juice.

Excessive acidity, in combination with other causative factors, negatively affects the inner membrane and submucosal layer, destroying and injuring it, causing the formation of a defect.

It should be remembered that the menu for stomach ulcers should exclude foods that contribute to:

  1. even greater production of HCl
  2. traumatization of the inner wall

Stimulate the production of hydrochloric acid (and therefore contraindicated for ulcers):

  • alcohol

During the acute stage, even a minimal amount of alcoholic drinks can provoke serious complications in the form of bleeding or even perforation of an organ.

In addition to increased secretion of HCl, alcohol causes a disruption in the formation of a protective factor - gastric mucus, and helps to increase the concentration of pepsinogen-I.

Under the influence of the “green serpent,” a person becomes tipsy, loses self-control, and begins to eat foods prohibited for his illness, which worsens his condition.

Fans of this drink in the morning on an empty stomach should reconsider their preferences. Caffeine also stimulates the production of HCl, promotes the development of oxygen starvation of the capillaries of the inner wall, accelerates the evacuation of food, and creates conditions for the formation of gastroduodenal reflux. Diet for stomach ulcers at home - “white” list of products

The goal of proper nutrition is to quickly transfer the ulcerative defect to the scarring stage and prevent exacerbation. Therefore, the “white” list of what can be safely consumed for this disease consists of foods that are mechanically and chemically gentle on the stomach. The diet includes:

  • white stale bread, “Croquet”, “Maria” cookies
  • milk soups made from oatmeal, rice, semolina porridge
  • pureed vegetable soups, noodles with butter or cream dressing
  • boiled rice, buckwheat, oatmeal
  • boiled beef, rabbit, turkey,
  • lean fish
  • low fat milk, yogurt, curdled milk
  • boiled pasta
  • boiled potatoes, carrots, beets, cauliflower
  • pumpkin, zucchini
  • boiled tongue
  • jellied fish in a broth of vegetables
  • dietary boiled sausage
  • puree, jelly, sweet berry mousse

  • marshmallows, marshmallows, honey, jam in small quantities

With the advent of drugs such as proton pump inhibitors in the treatment of peptic ulcers, the opinions of doctors and scientists regarding diet are divided.

Opponents of strict dietary restrictions have emerged, who explain their position as follows: modern medications are capable of sufficiently blocking acid production, which is stimulated by food, so sometimes you can allow yourself too much according to the principle “if you really want it, then you can.”

Many doctors adhere to strict dietary restrictions and, in the old fashioned way, recommend that patients refrain from any dietary errors. Prohibited foods are a strict taboo even during the period of persistent attenuation of inflammatory changes.

Most doctors are for the “golden mean” and moderation in restrictions: antiulcer treatment diets No. 1a and No. 1b are prescribed only for severe symptoms of exacerbation for a short time, then patients are transferred to diet No. 1.

It stimulates the repair processes of the affected organ, restores appetite, prevents the development of constipation, and has a positive effect on the general well-being of the patient.

This table No. 1 is physiologically complete both in caloric content and in the balance of nutrients with a predominance of protein. It excludes the consumption of spicy, peppery foods rich in dyes and preservatives, which can have an irritating effect on the mucous membrane.

Otherwise, table No. 1 fully complies with the rules described above and all dishes from the “white” list are allowed in it. It is also recommended to limit the intake of table salt to no more than 5-6 g per day, taking into account its content in food products.

You should not think that this table No. 1 is indicated only for the first time after the disease has subsided, and two years later after the exacerbation has disappeared, you can return to the usual French fries and soda.

This diet should be taken as a constant basis of nutrition for life, because an ulcer that has already occurred may heal, but the tendency for it to reoccur will not disappear.

Therapeutic diet for exacerbation of stomach ulcers

In case of severe exacerbation, intense acute pain syndrome, emerging or possible complications, table No. 1a is prescribed.

Its goal is to minimize irritating effects on the mucous membrane, both mechanical and chemical. The patient is simultaneously prescribed bed rest.

Food is accepted exclusively in liquid or pureed form, the “white” list is shortened, all types of fruits and vegetables, bread and baked goods in any form, and fermented milk products disappear from it.

Salt consumption is practically absent or significantly reduced (down to 1-2.5 g per day).

Cream soups, slimy porridges with water, and soufflé are widely used. The energy value decreases to 1900-2000 kcal.

Table No. 1b is prescribed after cessation of nutrition on table No. 1a during the period of attenuation of inflammation. Food can be taken not only in pureed and liquid form, but in small pieces. This is a gentle regime, gradual preparation and a transition to a more expanded diet.

Calorie content increases to 2500 kcal. It is allowed to take boiled vegetables, steamed cutlets from lean dietary meat, and white stale bread.

Drinking regime is within 1.2-1.5 liters.

The sequence reflecting the gradual expansion of the diet for this diagnosis looks like this: table No. 1a -1b-1.

Antiulcer diets No. 1a - 1b are prescribed during the period of exacerbation and beginning remission for a short period of time from 3-5 to 10-14 days, and then patients are transferred to diet No. 1, which is recommended to be followed for at least a year, and ideally for life.

Dish recipes

Proper dietary nutrition can be not only healthy, but also tasty. And here is confirmation of this - recipes for table dishes No. 1, which anyone can easily prepare:

1. Oatmeal soup with vegetables.

Carrots - 1 pc., potatoes - 3 pcs. Finely chop the medium size, add water to the oatmeal, bring to a boil. Add vegetables, cook for 10 minutes. When serving, add a teaspoon of low-fat sour cream and eat warm.

2. Zucchini stuffed with boiled meat and rice.

Zucchini – 5 pcs. Remove seeds and stems, scald with boiling water, remove skin. Mix boiled rice (3 tablespoons) with boiled lean meat (100 g), minced twice. Add 5g butter to the minced meat. Fill the zucchini with minced meat, place in a heat-resistant container and simmer in the oven at 180 0C for at least 20 minutes.

3. Curd soufflé with jelly.

Cool the pre-cooked semolina. Rub non-acidic cottage cheese (200g) through a sieve, mix with semolina, add 1 tbsp. sugar, 5 g butter, grind, put in a mold and steam for 20 minutes. Pour pre-cooked and cooled blueberry jelly over the cooled souffle

Milk

Yes. If we are not talking about fresh fresh milk, from morning milking, but about a pasteurized store-bought product with a low fat content.

Garlic

No. Its acute irritating effect negatively affects the recovery process of the ulcer.

Yes. In small quantities, this product has a beneficial effect on the gastrointestinal tract, helps lower elevated pH levels, and eliminates the symptoms of heartburn.

Adherents of traditional medicine use honey as a healing drink that envelops the mucous membrane, relieves inflammation and irritation, and eliminates heartburn. 1 teaspoon of the product is dissolved in a glass of water at room temperature and taken orally either before meals or 3 hours after meals.

You can take this drink after making sure that you are not allergic to honey.

It is possible, but only during the period of remission in small quantities, lightly salted with a low percentage of fat content. It is better not to use varieties like feta cheese and Adyghe cheese.

Bananas

Yes. Even during a period of unstable remission, this fruit is not prohibited from being taken in pureed form. The exception is unripe bananas.

Citrus

Not during exacerbation. They promote irritation and increase inflammation, increase the pH of gastric juice, aggravate heartburn, belching, and pain. If the pathology is persistently attenuated, it can be taken once a month in a small amount.

Sushi

No. Fresh sea fish and seafood are dangerous food for a sore stomach, especially in combination with hot sauces and seasonings that are served with this dish.

Nuts and seeds

Not in the acute phase of the disease, since these products are difficult to digest and are a mechanical irritant. During the subsiding phase of the pathology, they can be taken in moderation, but they should be thoroughly chewed in the oral cavity.

Apples and pears

Yes. They can be taken in the phase of unstable remission in pureed form without peel. The pectin contained in apples has a beneficial effect on digestion and has a wound-healing and enveloping effect. Jelly and compotes made from these fruits are useful.

Grape juice

No. Grapes and sugar ferment in the gastrointestinal tract, increase bloating and can increase pain and discomfort.

A competent approach to choosing food products, responsible adherence to the regime and rules of food intake will allow you to keep the disease in remission for a long time and forget about pain.

Nutrition for stomach ulcers is a very important point in treating the disease and preventing exacerbations. No drug therapy will give the desired effect without an accompanying diet. For patients with peptic ulcers, the standard is table No. 1 according to Pevzner. Below we will take a closer look at what to eat if you have a stomach ulcer.

The Pevzner diet No. 1 involves reducing the load on the stomach through mechanical, thermal and chemical sparing. It is divided into several successive stages, which are prescribed at different periods of the disease.

Table 1a

Diet 1a is prescribed for exacerbation of stomach ulcers and gastritis. During the acute period (10-12 days), patients are allowed only pureed and mushy dishes, which weakly stimulate gastric secretion. The calorie content of the food is about 2000 kcal.

The basis of the diet is slimy decoctions of cereals, semi-liquid soufflés of lean meat and fish, pureed porridge with water. Eggs can only be eaten soft-boiled or as a steam omelet. The preferred drinks are jelly, milk, and low-fat cream. It is allowed to add butter and vegetable oil (especially olive) to food. Other foods, including bread, are excluded.

The daily diet for exacerbation of a stomach ulcer contains 80-90 grams of fats and proteins, about 200 grams of carbohydrates and a sufficient amount of vitamins. Salt is limited to 5-6g/day. There should be at least 6 small meals per day. All food and drinks are served warm; cold or hot drinks are not allowed.

For diet 1 and for stomach ulcers, the daily menu looks something like this:

  1. breakfast – steam omelette, weak tea;
  2. 2nd breakfast – semolina porridge on water with butter, jelly;
  3. lunch – slimy oatmeal soup, meat soufflé, milk;
  4. afternoon snack – pureed rice porridge, fruit jelly;
  5. dinner – mashed potato soup;
  6. second dinner - soft-boiled eggs and a decoction of dried fruits.

When the exacerbation of the disease subsides, the next stage of the diet begins, which also lasts 10-12 days. The diet is gradually expanded to include white bread in the form of crackers (up to 70-100 g per day). The calorie content of daily food is 2500-2600 kcal. In addition to dishes from diet 1a for stomach ulcers, the menu includes vegetable purees, steamed fish or meat cutlets, mashed milk porridges, syrups, and jellies. The frequency of meals is 5 times a day.

Sample diet menu 1b:

  1. breakfast – mashed non-sour cottage cheese and a glass of natural yogurt;
  2. 2nd breakfast – pureed rice porridge with milk, jelly, white bread crackers;
  3. lunch - boiled oatmeal with steamed beef cutlet, pureed vegetable soup, rosehip compote;
  4. afternoon snack – weak sweet tea and crackers, baked apple;
  5. dinner - fish soufflé with semi-liquid mashed potatoes, bran decoction.

Nutrition for stomach ulcers at the next (third) stage is close to normal in calorie content (about 3000 kcal). Stale white bread, boiled porridge with water and milk, boiled meat (beef, rabbit, chicken), boiled or steamed fish, pasta, cocoa, weak coffee with milk or cream are added to the diet. During the healing stage, fruits for stomach ulcers can only be eaten sour and ripe, in the form of puree or baked. The same applies to berries.

The third stage of therapeutic nutrition lasts as long as the previous ones, but it is not final. For 5-6 months, they adhere to some rules and restrictions, very gradually expanding the diet and bringing it to normal. And even with complete remission of the disease, you should limit the consumption of certain foods:

  • fatty meat, fish, poultry;
  • spices and herbs;
  • sweet confectionery products;
  • marinades, smoked meats, pickles;
  • sausages;
  • salted fish;
  • "fast food";
  • mushrooms;
  • strong coffee.

The same principles should be followed to prevent stomach ulcers.

It is better to give up alcohol completely so as not to provoke a new exacerbation. It is also not recommended to eat fried foods. Food should be prepared by boiling, stewing, baking or steaming.

Nutrition after surgical treatment of ulcers

Diet after surgery to remove a stomach ulcer requires a special approach. Typically, this procedure usually removes two-thirds of the organ, so the volume of the stomach is significantly reduced. In the first days, a zero surgical diet is prescribed, which involves consuming only mucous decoctions and very weak broths and jelly. That is, all food is mainly given in the form of drinks. Gradually switch to diet 1, described above.

Bananas and stomach ulcers

Bananas are tasty and healthy fruits. They also contain a lot of starch, which envelops the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract and protects them from the action of acid. Therefore, bananas for stomach ulcers help quickly relieve pain and alleviate the condition. If the patient tolerates this product well, it can be taken even during an exacerbation in the form of a puree. Of course, you shouldn’t overdo it; it’s enough to eat one fruit a day.

Bananas are a valuable source of vitamins, minerals and energy, which are needed in increased quantities for peptic ulcers.

Can I drink milk?

You can drink milk if you have a stomach ulcer, and it is very beneficial. During an exacerbation, the body especially needs vitamins and nutrients, which are contained in sufficient quantities in dairy products. But you should know that in the acute period you should not drink fermented milk drinks, they can irritate the inflamed mucous membrane and negatively affect the healing process of the ulcer.

It is allowed to drink skim or low-fat milk warm (boiled or pasteurized). You can drink not only cow's milk, but also goat's milk, but it must be diluted with boiled water. When the ulcer heals, you can gradually consume fermented milk products.

Ulcer and quail eggs

This product is considered dietary and is used to treat many diseases, including peptic ulcers.

Quail eggs for stomach ulcers contribute to faster healing of the defect and also help prevent exacerbation. They can be eaten as a steamed omelette or soft-boiled.
