How to make folding trestles with your own hands. How to properly build scaffolding, construction trestles with your own hands

Perhaps any owner of a house with a stove, fireplace or sauna has at least once cut wood. When camping or fishing, sawing or splitting trees is not difficult, as only a small amount of firewood is required. It is much more difficult to prepare firewood regularly, in reserve. To facilitate the cutting process, sawhorses have been used for cutting wood for centuries.

The design has a very simple structure, so making it is not difficult even for a beginner. To make cutting firewood not only quick, but also easy, you need to choose the right sawhorses.

Design for hand sawing

For many centuries, goats remained practically unchanged. The craftsmen only adjusted the width and height of the product to their own height and the size of the logs. Previously, wood was cut in pairs using a two-handed saw.

The cutting process when working together was controlled by the free hand. On both sides, workers held the ends of the log, guiding it or pressing it for more convenient work. When cutting large trunks, they were sawed a little deeper than the middle and turned to the other side. With such a cut, the cut could have an uneven edge, which would burden the splitting.

Traditional sawhorses for firewood were made from cross-shaped posts. They were placed at a distance equal to the double firebox of the stove for which the wood was cut.

Such products can still be found in everyday life, but they have still undergone some changes. Another cross was added to them, which allows you to clamp firewood. These sawhorses can be used with one-handed saws.

You can also find metal sawhorses on the modern market. They are equipped with teeth for strong fixation of wood. Metal devices have screw stops that also make cutting easier by holding the log in the sawhorses.

It is much easier to prepare fuel on such goats. If you store firewood yourself, then such a device is indispensable in your household.

Chain saw sawhorses

If you need to store a large amount of fuel, it is best to work with an electric or gasoline saw. Such tools not only make it easier, but also speed up the work significantly. In addition, they reduce physical and time costs.

It will not be possible to cut firewood with a chain saw on a regular, traditional sawhorse, since the tool may break if the bar gets stuck in the cut. If you cut off pieces of logs that extend beyond the crosspieces of the structure, the cut will be long and irrational. That is why special sawhorses for sawing firewood with a chainsaw have been developed for harvesting with electric tools. The simplest design for cutting firewood with a chain saw consists of a heavy base and stable legs. The tree trunk is cut down where it extends beyond the boundaries of the goat. You can hold the log in this setup with your foot.

The speed of work on this design is not very high, but it is quite suitable for cutting medium batches.

Chain saw stand

If you are harvesting thin logs, it is better to build a log rack. The design consists of 4 legs or pillars welded or attached to the base. You can use a welded frame or a heavy metal plate for it. The device is convenient only for working with small trunks; you cannot cut large logs with it. The size of the trestle is selected based on the size of the stove and the length of the supplied logs. The product can be made in almost any size.

Note! To facilitate the operation of frame trestles, fasten the racks not by welding, but by bolting. This will allow you to quickly disassemble the structure to remove firewood.

The device has the only drawback - the armful of logs in it cannot be sawed to the end, otherwise the saw will hit the ground. To eliminate this problem, you can install transverse supports in which a gap is formed between the woodpile and the trestle stand. However, this type of device cannot be quickly disassembled, which reduces its functionality.

Assembly of traditional trestle

To make a classic design for sawing firewood with your own hands, you will need one of the following materials:

The product is very simple, but to make it functional, you need to follow certain recommendations. One of which is drawing up a diagram or drawing that will facilitate assembly. On the drawing you need to note the size and height of the structure. This will allow you to correctly assemble the sawhorses and calculate the amount of material needed.

It is very important in the work to accurately select the angle of the supports. Correct tilting will make the structure stable and cutting simple. If you don’t know how to make a sawhorse with your own hands, use the instructions from professionals.

When making trestles, it is necessary to correctly select their height and length. These dimensions are affected by:

  • the height of the worker who will cut the wood;
  • saw size;
  • dimensions of the trunks that will be used for preparation.

Correctly selected parameters will allow you to assemble the sawhorses quickly and correctly. The optimal height of the structure is 90-100 cm. At this height, the worker will not strain his back by constant bending, and his arms will be horizontal to the working surface.

Goats for working with a hand saw

Most often, a regular saw is used for harvesting wood; this allows you to cut small-sized logs. Goats for such purposes may have standard dimensions. To assemble such a structure you will need the following materials:

The material will be required for homeowners who do not have building materials on the site. Those who have scraps of timber or pipes left over from other work can use them in assembling the trestle.

To create the design you will need the following set of tools:

  • hacksaw for cutting timber;
  • corner for aligning parts of the structure;
  • pencil for marking;
  • hammer or screwdriver;
  • roulette;
  • finishing coat and brush.

Once the material has been purchased, assembly can begin. The goat frame is made starting with wood processing. To do this, use a tape measure and a pencil to mark the cutting areas. They need to be made 6 on each side. There will be 12 of all grooves for connecting the legs and crosses. With a beam cross-section of 100 mm, the depth of the groove is 25 mm, this is enough for a strong fastening. When cutting the grooves, make sure that they are a couple of millimeters smaller than the legs. After marking and making grooves, all parts are assembled into a single structure.

After assembly, fastener reinforcements are installed; they enhance the strength of the structure and make work safer. To do this, saw off the bottom of each leg so that there is enough space to install a new fastener. After assembling the product, it is treated with a protective compound. To do this, use varnish or stain. When the structure is dry, it can be used.

Metal goats

A metal structure is often called a machine tool because of its stability. In addition to stability, these sawhorses are very durable. If you want to assemble such a product yourself, prepare the following materials and tools in advance:

Before assembly, an exact diagram or drawing of the trestle is made. After determining the dimensions of the structure, the beams for the base are marked and sawn. It is also worth marking the points of welding or connecting the legs and “horns” in advance.

Note! If you plan to take the sawhorse with you on hikes or move it from place to place in the future, use a bolt-on connection. A structure assembled using such fasteners will be more mobile.

To construct a conventional, stationary machine, welding is used. The parts of the structure are welded together, starting with the legs. It is better to enlist the help of a partner in such work. After welding, a wooden plank is attached to the longitudinal beam; it will protect the metal from the saw.

When you assemble it yourself, you can get a device that suits you in all respects. Don’t be afraid to add your own edits to the design, this will make the work even more efficient.

Anyone who has dealt with cutting wood has probably realized that doing this work “on your knees” is very inconvenient and time-consuming. Our great-grandfathers left a legacy of a very convenient device, called “goats” with an emphasis on the first syllable.

In the West, this simple wood saw is also well known, but they called it the “horse”.

In order to make goats yourself, you need to think through their design in advance and make a sketch or drawing. In this case, the assembly will be faster and will not require error correction during operation.

In addition to the usual version made of wooden beams, today you can find very interesting collapsible and prefabricated structures of metal trestles, which are specially adapted for operation with an electric or chainsaw.

Ergonomics lesson

It’s not difficult to make sawhorses for firewood with your own hands so that they are light, stable and easy to use. To do this, you need to accurately select the dimensions of this structure to suit your height, and also take into account the type of tool used for sawing.

In order for the sawing process to take a minimum of time, the firewood should be at a height that does not require a person to squat or bend the body too much. It is best when the working cutting height is from 90 cm to 110 cm. At this level, you can quickly and comfortably cut wood without bending your back.

Sawing wood with a two-handed saw requires a rest for your free hand. In such a machine it is the cut timber installed in the sawhorses. When using a chainsaw, there is no need for a stop because both hands hold the tool. Here it is much more important to make a design that would allow one end of the timber (log) to be extended beyond the limits of the machine as much as possible. In this case, there will be no risk of chainsaw clamping, which is inevitable when cutting firewood between the trestle posts.

Goats for sawing firewood with a two-handed saw must meet two main requirements: stability and strength. The fact is that the manual cutting process is accompanied by alternating shearing forces, which weaken the machine and can cause it to tip over. Therefore, X-shaped racks, fastened together with a longitudinal beam or metal tie, must be made of high-quality wood with a thickness of at least 100 mm.

The width of the lower supporting part of the racks should be slightly larger (10-15cm) than the distance from the ground to the top of the tie beam. In addition to the longitudinal tie connecting the supporting crosspieces, the legs of the wooden machine should be strengthened with a strapping block to increase the rigidity of the entire structure.

Sawing firewood can also be done on metal sawhorses. Compared to wooden ones, they are less bulky and will last for decades. To make them, you will need a corner or profile pipe with side dimensions of at least 50 mm. If mobility is important to you, then the crosspieces and the attachment of the longitudinal profile to them should be done not by welding, but by bolted connections.

If you don’t have the time or desire to make a machine, and there is a mountain of uncut firewood in the yard, buy a ready-made structure. The price of collapsible metal machines for sawing firewood ranges from 1800 to 5500 rubles, and their model range is very wide and varied.

When choosing, pay attention to the stability of the frame and the quality of the profile. If the machine easily wobbles from hand action and its developers saved on every gram of metal, look for a more reliable option.

Chainsaw likes a loose end

Low prices and a large selection of chainsaws have made this tool the main one for cutting firewood, so today craftsmen are developing their own original sawhorse designs for it. The productivity and ease of cutting wood with gasoline and electric tools is tens of times higher than traditional mechanical sawing.

Goats for sawing firewood with a power tool can be made according to the classic design - two symmetrical X-shaped stands with a crossbar. However, in this case there is a high probability of the chain saw clamping at the moment the cut is completed. This moment cannot be called pleasant and safe when working with a speed saw.

To avoid jamming, the log has to be turned with the cut down each time and only then finish sawing. It is much more convenient and safer, especially for a novice woodcutter, to cut the free end of the log protruding outward from the sawhorse.

Therefore, preference should be given to metal structures that allow you to extend the log as far as possible in one direction, securely clamping its other end using toothed grips or a steel chain.

We make sawhorses for firewood with our own hands

Let's consider the simplest version of the design, which can be made by any man who knows how to hold a jigsaw and a screwdriver in his hands.

First, we cut a wooden block according to the dimensions of the drawing. For racks and transverse tightening you will need a beam measuring 100x100 mm or 50x100 mm, and for tying the legs a section of 50x50 mm is enough.

Let's start assembling homemade goats from racks. To do this, we cut out grooves in the bars of the cross at the point of their connection for a tighter connection, after which we put the racks on top of each other and fix them with three long screws (75 mm).

We also make two small cutouts in the tie beam and tightly stuff it onto the assembled posts. We secure the lower part of the legs of our machine on self-tapping screws with strapping bars.

The metal structure is made in the same way, with the exception of cutting grooves in the profile to tightly connect the frame elements. In this case, a wooden block can be secured to the longitudinal angle or pipe holding the posts together to protect the saw teeth from contact with the metal.

Goats are the simplest device for sawing firewood. They make it possible to process wood raw materials, and you can also cut boards or metal strips. Classic options have a simple design. To make a wooden trestle, you can choose one of the following materials: wooden beams, a thin tree trunk, metal profiles or scrap metal.

Wooden goat for the garden

In order to make wooden goats with your own hands, you need to prepare the surface of the material. It is also necessary to carefully consider the design of our workpiece, make sketches to determine the dimensions of these parts. It is better to think carefully about everything first so that repair work is not needed later. Correctly selected parameters and dimensions of such wooden blanks allow you to assemble a fairly stable and at the same time comfortable bed for work, which is designed for sawing firewood.

The size of our workpiece must take into account the convenient use of the machine:

  • man's height,
  • tool,
  • sawn wood species.

The height of the tree depends on the duration of cutting the wood. The most acceptable height of the crossbar - the support for laying raw materials - reaches about 100 centimeters; this size allows you to work in a natural state, without the need to bend your back or place your arms above the horizontal.

Making folding trestles from wood

Firewood must be collected for certain seasons. The sawing machine used collects dust the rest of the time. If you decide to make a sawhorse for sawing firewood with your own hands, then you should decide the following points: how to store them rationally, whether you will use the device during off-site logging.

If you decide to make a sawhorse for sawing wood with your own hands, then the following materials will be useful to you:

  • four pieces of wooden blocks;
  • a metal pipe, about a meter long;
  • limiters for connecting the legs, this can be a cable or a chain.
  • wood drill.

Manufacturing is as simple as the design of our summer cottage device itself. It is necessary to take bars that are the same size. On each block you need to mark the area for drilling and drill holes.

An important point: if the assembly was done correctly, the bars can be made into a single surface and the trestles can be removed until they are needed.

Manufacturing of metal sawhorses for sawing firewood

To make metal goats with your own hands, you must first determine the working life and small dimensions, comparing with the classic wooden version of the design. In order to make it with your own hands from metal, you will need to prepare materials and the following tools for further work:

  • corner;
  • timber beam, which measures 45 by 50 mm;
  • Bulgarian;
  • centimeter for construction work;
  • bolts to connect all parts of our homemade structure.

According to the drawing made in advance, on which the dimensions should be put down, we outline the areas for attaching the stags with legs. We cut the remaining areas of our workpiece. You must select a connection method. In order for the design of our workpiece to be collapsible, the parts must be connected using bolts. And in the case of a stationary structure, welding is used. A piece of timber with dimensions of approximately 45 by 45 mm must be secured to the longitudinal pipe that holds the racks together.

Goat with metal legs

The price of a homemade metal blank is quite low, compared with the cost of ready-made models that are offered today on the markets for such garden equipment. The model ranges include small models that are used for permanent use, and there are also large models that are intended for large-scale production. The price of such blanks varies from 15 to 400 dollars. You should choose the specific one you will be using on the instrument.

The ugly design of our workpiece can be transformed into an interesting aesthetic appearance by expanding the basic functionality of the machine. The production scheme for sawing machines is the same as all those presented above: the legs have horns that connect to the main body of the structure.

Modifications will affect the materials used:

  1. You can use wide boards instead of logs.
  2. The legs can also be made from metal profiles.
  3. You can make a base from fairly narrow boards and cover the top with a multi-colored antifungal agent.

The manufacturing process of our blank for the dacha consists of the following stages:

  1. We attach supports to the base of our workpiece, which must first be bent at both ends.
  2. Bolts with wing nuts are used as connectors.
  3. The bending angle must be chosen at any angle, and the capabilities of a large log into rogulins should be taken into account.
  4. The bottom step must be taken taking into account the stability of the structure.
  5. The versatility of the blank for a summer residence lies in the fact that it produces an unusual appearance and this design has extended functional horns.

The legs, bent at a certain angle, in further assembly form a vertically directed crevice, which comfortably accepts wood of any diameter. Cutting wood with an incorrect configuration will be simple and at the same time as safe as possible.

Goat made of boards

To the above-described structure model, horns can be attached in the gap. This will make it possible to cut small beams, workpieces, and so on. Thanks to the collapsible design of such a structure, the machine can be used in utility rooms and in a small area, for example, on the roof area, in the attic during renovation work.

In a small room, unification can be brought to perfection. During assembly, leave the upper part of the horns and cut out a bend 90% to the vertical in the vise area.

If necessary, on horizontally located horns, you can lay a flat board and it will turn out improvised table . Having considered the method of attaching the board to the horns, you can get a mobile option in order to attach vices, benchtops, and tabletops. For the period of the structure's standing, flat planks are made from it into a plane in order to hang shelves for tools.

Hi all!

If you need to regularly cut firewood, you cannot do without a convenient “goat”. You can make this device without any problems on your own, as you will see below.

Tools and materials

To make a convenient folding “goat” for cutting firewood, which can be stored in a garage or shed, you will need:

  • Tape measure, pencil, wood saw and miter box;
  • Electric drill, wood drills, screwdriver or shaped screwdriver;
  • plane (electric or manual);
  • antiseptic impregnation and waterproof varnish;
  • lumber (4 boards 7-8 cm wide and 1 m long, 6 bars 10 cm wide and 1 m long);
  • fastening elements (24 wood screws, 3 M8 bolts + washers and nuts).

Preparatory stage

First of all, you need to prepare a design drawing. The optimal height of the “goat” for manual sawing of firewood varies in the range of 90 – 110 cm; at this height you will not have to work in a half-bent position, which means your back will not get so tired. In our case, the “goat” has cross-shaped supports made of bars 1 meter long; accordingly, the sawn log will be located at a height of about 90 cm.

The boards and bars for assembling the “goat” must be dry, without deformations or knots (otherwise they may simply burst under load). In order for the structure to successfully perform its functions for many years, the wood should be protected from rot and various types of pests. To do this, wooden blanks, sawn to size, are treated twice with an antiseptic, with a break for drying. You can also additionally coat the workpieces with waterproof varnish.

Assembly of the "goat"

Cutting blanks. To ensure precise cutting when using a hand saw, use a miter box. The supports (6 elements) must be absolutely identical to each other; for this, use the first of the prepared elements as a template.

Assembly of the structure will take about two hours. The work order is as follows:

Step 1: Holes are prepared for bolted connections that fasten X-shaped supports. Two supports with side ribs are laid on top of each other and leveled. Using a tape measure, measure 70 cm from the bottom end and draw a transverse line. Drill a through hole in its center for installing an M80 bolt. The remaining two pairs of supports are prepared in the same way.

Then each pair is fastened with a bolt, washer and nut.

Step 2: The side boards are attached to the supports using self-tapping screws, for which holes must be made using an electric drill or a brace with a thin drill. It is important that the holes are positioned strictly vertically, this affects the reliability of the structure - if the screw is placed at an angle in the wood, this will disrupt the uniform distribution of the load and the board may crack at the attachment point.

We make holes for fasteners on the boards that will connect the X-shaped support posts. The first pair of boards (they will be installed on one side of the “goat”) are laid one on top of the other and leveled. In accordance with the drawing presented below, a pair of vertical holes are drilled in them at a distance of 67 mm from each end, plus another pair of holes at a distance of 145 mm from one of the ends.

The second pair of boards (for the other side of the goat) are also stacked on top of each other and carefully leveled. Pairs of vertical holes are drilled 22 mm from each end and 335 mm from one of them.

Please note: according to the general drawing, the first and second X-shaped supports should open in different directions, and the third should open in the same way as the second, this increases the rigidity of the system. Between the centers of the legs of the first and second support, open to the right, the distance should be 200 mm, between the first and third “right leg” - 910 mm.

Step 3: The bottom boards of each pair are screwed to X-shaped supports, connecting them together. The gap between the bottom end of the support and the bottom edge of the board should be 80 mm. Then the top boards are screwed on each side of the “goat”. The gap between the bottom edge of the board and the bottom edge of the end of the support should be 535 mm.

Folding sawhorses of this design are quite strong and stable, perfect for sawing logs, stumps, thick boards using a two-handed or gasoline saw.

Folding trestles should be stored in a dry place to avoid wood deterioration due to moisture.

How to make folding sawhorses with your own hands

When cutting a board placed on this device, you do not have to hold the sawn part with your hand as it falls on the floor.

Homemade carpentry trestles conveniently fold for storage, and when in working condition they take a stable position, providing two points of support for workpieces.

The design in question does not have complex carpentry joints, and the process of making a pair of such devices with your own hands takes several hours. Folding sawhorses are easy to transport in a car; they are convenient for sawing long boards or sheets of plywood.

Preparing parts for carpentry sawhorses

Inexpensive pine boards 20–40 mm thick are suitable for work. It is not at all necessary to select ideal lumber; wood with minor defects is quite suitable. To fasten the parts of the carpentry trestles you will need screws, and to connect the sliding halves you will need four hinges.

Composite photo of carpentry sawhorses.

When determining dimensions, pay attention to the height of the structure, based on ease of use. For a craftsman with a height of about 180 cm, a support height of 80–85 cm is suitable. To avoid mistakes, measure your table or workbench at which you are sawing. The width of the trestles is one meter to ensure the stability of the device in the working position.

Drawings of blanks for folding trestles with a height of 860 mm.

Mark and cut all boards to length, making sure to maintain right angles when cutting. Plan the workpieces on all sides. Some parts will require additional preparation.

Sand the surfaces and round the edges of the top rails to reduce the likelihood of the wood chipping during use.

For the same purpose, treat the lower ends of the legs. First, remove the chamfers with a plane.

Immediately mark on the legs the location of the lower crossbars, placed at a distance of 150 mm from the end of the workpiece.

Marking the legs.

Start assembly from any top corner. Align the ends of the workpieces at right angles using a mounting square to connect the parts, drill holes and tighten the screws.

Assembling racks.

If the workshop does not have screws of suitable length, you can use smaller hardware. You just need to strengthen the connection with wood glue and tighten the screws on both sides.

Now lay out the parts on a flat surface, align them according to the marks and fasten the boards together, checking the perpendicularity of the joints.

Assembled carpentry trestle frame.

Place a spacer on the assembled frame and draw cutting lines for the corners.

Cut off the excess pieces with a hacksaw and install the diagonal board in place.

The latter will be easy to install if wicket-type products are used. You will have to select recesses in the crossbars for the door hinges using a hand router or chisel.

The size of the notch should allow the hinge knuckle to rotate freely and not touch the wood.

Installation of hinges.

When installing hinged hinges, remember that the wings need to be placed “discordantly” so that the pins point in different directions.

Screw the loop halves onto the long crossbars.

Select a thin strip that matches the height of your fist.

It is clear that in specialized stores you can choose sawhorses for every taste, but the cost of high-quality models is steep. And the implementation of our project will require less than 20 meters of boards, taking into account trimming of cracked ends. The end result will be to equip your workshop with a couple of useful assistants.

Construction trestles: choosing ready-made ones and making them yourself

Surely, in the process of home renovation, many of you have encountered a situation when there is a need to work under the ceiling, but your height does not allow you to do this - yes, not all of us are giants, and many need devices for this purpose. Some people, without thinking twice, take the oldest table in the house as a scaffolding, others use stools, placing old doors on them - in general, people solve this issue in different ways. But the most interesting thing is that without even thinking about what they are doing, they invariably make such a device as construction sawhorses. We will talk about them in this article, in which, together with the site, we will study ready-made construction trestles sold in stores, and also consider the issue of making them yourself.

Construction trestles: what types can be purchased in the store

Modern industry can offer quite a lot of variations of scaffolding, but oddly enough, they all come down to two types of products, which may differ from each other in size, assembly methods, material and the presence of certain additions, which are worth discussing separately. We will talk about this later, but for now let’s get acquainted with two types of devices called “construction goats”.

In general, the choice between one and another type of construction trestles of factory origin is extremely clear and it depends more on the types of objects that you are going to repair. If you work exclusively in apartments and small houses, then a transformer is quite suitable for you; if we are talking about large objects, then, naturally, you cannot do without normal classical scaffolding. Whether you like it or not, if you decide to do repairs professionally, then you will have to purchase construction trestles - alternatively, you can make them yourself, which will be discussed further.

DIY construction trestles: wooden disposable scaffolding

This is a disposable option that, after repairs are completed, is either disassembled and thrown away, or thrown into a landfill as is - alternatively, disassembled sawhorses can be used for some other purpose. After all, it is wood, and you can always find a use for it.

Wooden trestles for the garden

These goats are made quite simply, and they literally look like a stool.

Basically, that's it. We can say that the homemade construction trestles are ready, and all that remains to be done before they are fully manufactured is to lay them on the manufactured base - the shield. Like everything else, it should be securely secured with nails or screws.

How to make construction trestles with your own hands: metal version

By and large, this type of homemade construction trestles is made in almost exactly the same way - the principle is identical, but the nuances vary. It is for this reason that we will not talk about the sequence of work, but about the subtleties. There aren't many of them.

All other issues related to the independent production of metal construction trestles can be resolved quite simply, and you can easily figure them out on your own. The only thing that should be added in conclusion to the topic about construction trestles is to say a few words about fences for safe work - they need to be laid at the stage of manufacturing side ladders. Just don't step until the very end of the posts and you'll still have the height to install the parapet.

Choosing sawhorses for sawing firewood with a chainsaw

An extremely necessary device for sawing firewood in any yard is a log saw.

It helps to process and harvest a lot of wood with a chainsaw, greatly facilitating human labor. The structure of the trestle is quite simple, the components of the structure are quite accessible materials: wooden boards, metal corners, scrap metal. Choosing sawhorses for sawing firewood with a chainsaw.

Choosing a goat for cutting

Mounting

Before manufacturing such equipment, you first need to think about which trestle model to choose, make a drawing in which you indicate the dimensions, mounting angles of the parts, and the height of the horns. As they say, “measure seven times” to avoid alterations, and then begin assembling the structure.

The correct ratio of all parameters will make it possible to build a machine for comfortable and efficient cutting of wood. The dimensions of the goats should be selected taking into account the following data:

  1. Depending on the tool used for cutting;
  2. Taking into account the height of the human saw operator;
  3. What types of trees will be cut.

The height of the transverse support for placing lumber is 90-110 centimeters. This level allows you to saw while remaining upright without bending over, and is quite comfortable for your hands.

When cutting firewood is carried out with a chainsaw, this necessitates the installation of a device made from the most durable materials. The principle of working with this saw is to ensure that there is space on the machine to extend the free edge of the log.

Goats for a simple saw

Required set of tools:

  • Simple pencil;
  • Construction corner;
  • Hammer;
  • Roulette;
  • Hacksaw;
  • Various screwdrivers;
  • Chisels;
  • Paint brush.

You will need a block that is marked for twelve cuts, 6 on both sides, to a depth of two and a half centimeters. The legs and horns will be fixed into these grooves. They need to be secured using self-tapping screws. To prevent the legs from moving apart under load, they are reinforced with reinforcements. The ends of the legs are filed at an angle for good support. The finished product is stained against rotting.

Folding

Due to the fact that firewood is usually collected only for winter, it is possible to build folding trestles that do not clutter up the space. Or a similar machine will be suitable for harvesting lumber on site. For installation of this model the following materials are taken:

  1. One metal pipe a meter and a half long;
  2. Four wooden beams or boards 5 cm wide;
  3. Wood drill;
  4. Leg fastener-limiter - chain, cable, belts.

Four identical bars or boards are marked for drilling; the diameter for this is chosen a couple of millimeters smaller than the diameter of the tube. Through holes are drilled. The boards are connected in pairs so that the angle of the finished open trestle is 360-440 degrees. The resulting design allows the legs to be compactly folded into one plane.

For sawing timber

You can cut large volumes of firewood very quickly and easily with a chainsaw.

Purchasing this device is not difficult - it has an affordable price and a large assortment. The performance of a chainsaw is many times higher than the manual sawing method, and much less effort is required.

The user operating a chainsaw is presented with a high-quality and advantageous model of sawhorses. Sawing logs using the usual sawhorse, in the form of an X, is not the best option; the chain may get jammed at the moment of the cut.

Do-it-yourself sawhorses for sawing wood - a device for sawing with a chainsaw

To prevent this from happening, a person has to turn the wood over with his hands to the side opposite to the cut, and then continue sawing. A more reliable method would be to cut the end of the wood that protrudes from the edge.

In order to cut a lot of firewood efficiently and without delays, modernized metal sawhorses are used. As shown in the video, a steel chain is welded to one end of the machine or a gear gripper is mounted. So that in the future it becomes possible to clamp one end of the log in the structure, and the other to extend it as far as possible for cutting. The photo shows sawing with a chainsaw on such a model.

For forestry or sawmills, there are industrial versions of sawhorses. They are used for sawing or processing leftover timber, firewood, trimmings, etc. On these machines, wood material is stacked tightly against each other and firmly fixed.

Moments of ennoblement

To give the machine an aesthetic appearance, we can offer the following tips:

  • Add a third set of horns to the goat design. They will make it possible to cut shortened bars, firewood, etc.;
  • A narrow board is attached to the horns with a horizontal arrangement, forming a table. You can attach a vice and a tabletop to it - it will turn out to be a kind of workbench. When the sawhorses are not being used for their intended purpose, tools can be stored there.

  • There is not a man in the world who has not had to saw a log in order to chop firewood. If this task is one-time, then it is not difficult to cope with it. But if a person has to cut wood with a certain regularity, it is recommended to purchase or make a sawhorse for sawing wood - a device that can facilitate the process and greatly simplify the task.

    Functions of goats

    Sawing sawhorses are an important tool in every household, especially during preparation for the heating season. With their help, owners can quickly and easily cut thick logs and boards.

    The advantage of this product is that craftsmen can make it with their own hands instead of buying it. To do this, you will need the following materials and devices:

    • high-quality timber;
    • nails;
    • self-tapping screws;
    • carpentry tools.

    If a person knows how to use a hammer, it will take no more than 2–3 hours to make a sawhorse, and the product will last at least 5–7 years.

    Professionals prefer to use metal sawhorses; such a product is reliable and durable. But building them yourself is difficult, and manufacturing will take much more effort and resources.

    Homemade sawhorses for hand sawing

    Making sawhorses for cutting wood products is not at all difficult, but before taking active steps, the master needs to think about what exactly the design will be.

    When making a drawing, you need to decide what size the product should be and figure out the angle of inclination of the support; the height of the horns also plays a major role. Experts warn that in order to make it convenient to work with sawhorses for sawing, the following points must be taken into account when making them:

    • Man's height.
    • What type of wood will be sawed most often?
    • What type of tool will be used for cutting - a regular saw or a chainsaw.

    The height of the log affects how long it will take a person to cut it completely. As practice shows, the optimal height for support is from 90 to 110 cm, depending on the person’s height.

    When all the dimensions have been calculated, you need to prepare in advance all the materials required during work:

    • Beam for making the base. It is best to take a beam whose cross-section will be 100×100 mm, and the optimal length is 1.1 meters.
    • For the legs you will need bars with a cross section of 50x50 mm, but a length of 360 mm. Required quantity – 2 pieces.
    • For amplifiers under the feet you will need a beam with an inch cross-section, length - 1.3 meters.

    You will definitely need to stock up on a large number of screws and a means to treat the wood against rotting. To make goats with your own hands you will need the following tools:

    • construction corner and tape measure;
    • hacksaw;
    • pencil;
    • hammer;
    • several different chisels;
    • screwdrivers.

    Work schedule

    The beam for making the base needs to be marked for 12 cuts - 6 pieces on each side, their depth should be about 2.5 cm, they will act as grooves for the horns with legs.

    After this, the cuts are knocked out using a chisel, sawn bars are inserted into the formed grooves, and everything is fixed at this point using self-tapping screws.

    On bars with an inch cross-section, places for attaching amplifiers are marked; they will prevent the legs from diverging. Using a hacksaw, excess sections are sawed off, and the foreman selects the length of the legs. When the wood saws are ready, they need to be treated with stain and dried, after which the device is ready for use.

    Standard goats are quite large in size and weight, which does not always allow them to be transported. This is why many people prefer to buy or build a mobile unit that can be easily transported.

    But you should immediately take into account that the manufacture of such a design will take more time. All they need is:

    • 4 wooden blocks of medium diameter;
    • metal pipe 1.5 meters long;
    • strong rope or cable;
    • durable wood drill bit.

    The assembly of the structure always begins with the beams. On them you need to mark the location of the cut, where the legs will then be installed. After drilling the planks, the base is inserted into them, then the legs are installed in place. Finally, a limiter is made for the racks to prevent deformation of the legs.

    Chainsaw sawhorses

    Cutting firewood with a chainsaw is easier and more convenient if the log is thick and wet. But you need to understand that sawhorses for sawing with a chainsaw must be strong and durable.

    Professionals advise using a different design for their manufacture. Since sawing logs with this powerful tool requires a lot of space - one edge of the log will always be overhanging - the specialist will have to think in advance where exactly the sawhorses will be located.

    Some people adapt to using standard sawhorses when sawing logs with a chainsaw, but performing the actions will be extremely inconvenient, and the chain saw will certainly jam when the log is almost completely cut.

    It is necessary to take into account that their assembly will require not only logs and tools, but also a special fastening, which will prevent the log from hanging over one end. In the absence of certain knowledge, it is easier for the owner to simply purchase ready-made sawhorses at a hardware store, saving time and ensuring safety.

    Features and advantages of sawhorses for chainsaws

    Professional sawhorses for chainsaw work have the following advantages:

    • With the help of such equipment, owners can cut firewood alone, since they do not have to move the log while working.
    • The tool chain is guaranteed not to jam.
    • The master will be able to independently adjust the length of the blocks on which the log is sawed.
    • The sawn logs will roll in the direction opposite to the sawyer.
    • Most often, mobile goats are produced for working with a chainsaw; they are very easy to fold and take up very little space when folded.

    If a person does not have the opportunity to purchase a finished product, he must try to make it himself. The method using a heavy base and attaching a pair of horns to fix the log has proven itself very well.

    As a base, many men use a car wheel - its metal frame, but then make it heavier with the help of auxiliary materials. This design is not entirely productive, but it is quite convenient to work with.

    Features of storage and principles of operation of goats

    If you make a trestle, taking into account all the recommendations and strictly following the algorithm of actions, the structure will be strong and will last for more than one season. But it is necessary to take into account that the sawhorses will bear a large load. To extend their service life, it is recommended to store the device properly.

    Experts assure that to prevent the wood from starting to rot earlier, the goats must not only be treated with a special compound, but also stored in a dry room at a temperature above 15 degrees. Only in this case the negative effects of moisture and air will not lead to destruction of the material.

    It is very important to follow the harvesting rules; the goats should not be overloaded with too heavy and massive logs, as they may simply not withstand the excessive load and will fall apart.

    Goats for sawing are an indispensable device; it is necessary in every private home. If you don’t want to buy them, then craftsmen can easily build the tool with their own hands, especially since this does not require expensive materials and tools.

    But experts warn that during manufacturing you must strictly follow the algorithm of actions and observe safety rules, otherwise it is easy to injure yourself.

    Another recommendation is that before you start cutting wood, you need to check whether the sawhorses are really strong and reliable. This rule especially applies to performing work with a chainsaw; the engine power of such equipment can cause damage to goats or people.
