Is it profitable to work as a tutor, and what is required for this? Section "" Topic "Intimate question: How much can you earn by tutoring.

Good afternoon everyone!

I’ve had this article in my head for a long time, namely How can you make money by tutoring online? ?

The article has matured and acquired this format, perhaps it will help some of you start your journey in online tutoring? I will be very glad that I helped you!

It is safe to say that anyone with professional knowledge in their field can be a tutor.

It is important to understand who a tutor is, how and when he provides training. Even in tsarist times, private educational institutions, cadet and page corps, provided tutoring.

Tutors helped students prepare homework, repeat and memorize the material covered. Not only a teacher, but also a student with good grades could become a tutor. And now?

Nowadays, tutoring is not only about solid mastery of knowledge and preparation for exam tests, it is about in-depth study of a particular subject.

A tutor now is a professional in his field, capable of teaching not only children, teenagers, but also adults. Those who want to learn, for example, a foreign language and so on.

Naturally, the tutor’s work is paid not only in hourly terms, but also depending on the level of knowledge and the goals set for him.

In order to start making money from tutoring, you need to take several steps:

  • Choose a subject that you know perfectly and have the ability to teach. Tutoring is most often required in Russian, mathematics, physics, and foreign languages. These items are the most in demand. By choosing narrower subjects, it is more difficult to find students, especially in medium-sized and small cities.
  • Select student age category, with whom it is easier to contact. These can be preschool children, primary schoolchildren, high school students, university students, and adults. Each age category requires a special approach to tutoring.
  • Choose the most suitable hours for tutoring, both for the student and the tutor. This could be during the day or evening, during vacations, holidays or weekends.
  • Clearly define your pricing policy, taking into account the age of students, teaching methods. It is necessary to provide a system of discounts.
  • Analyze your experience, skills and knowledge in tutoring. If you need to improve something, be sure to set aside time for self-education, obtaining certificates, certificates, and additional diplomas.
  • It is advisable to draw up your own plan for achieving results in tutoring. It clearly outlines the time and desired achievements for a given period.

However, the most important step is to decide on tutoring options, training location, and methods for finding students.

Tutoring Options

There are only two options for tutoring. Each teacher chooses the most appropriate method:

  • Group classes. This type of tutoring has proven itself when the tutor is given the task of teaching new knowledge to a group of people. Then enrollment in a group, for example, of a certain level of English, is announced; classes are held once or twice a week with additional training on an individual basis for a fee.
  • Individual sessions. This type of tutoring is most effective for narrow purposes: preparation for exams, help in mastering the material covered, and so on.

Classes in groups are more difficult to conduct than individual ones.

√ Firstly, different levels of perception and assimilation of information in different age categories.

√Secondly, difficulty in choosing a location for classes.

There are several ways to conduct classes: at the student’s or tutor’s home, in a rented room or remotely, via the Internet.

Tutoring at home

This is the traditional way of conducting individual lessons. To study at home with a tutor, you must allocate a separate room or part of it, and have all the materials necessary for tutoring on hand.

If a tutor visits a student, then the only disadvantage is the cost of transportation and the need to bring the materials necessary for training with you.

The optimal solution is to search for students living nearby. But even in this case, it is necessary to take into account the time spent on travel.

Tutoring in rented premises

This case is suitable only when group classes are held and visual aids, posters, computers, blackboards, and stands are necessarily used for tutoring. In this case, there are no transport costs, but it is necessary to take into account the feasibility of renting premises.

The most cost-effective way to provide services. In this case, there are no costs for transport or rental. The location of the students does not matter; only the time difference and the availability of a computer are taken into account.

Internet connection with good speed, it is advisable to connect a video camera and microphone. Payment for classes is made directly to or.

When choosing this method, you should take into account the specifics of the subject, eliminate distractions if possible, and prepare more thoroughly for classes.

Tutoring via Skype differs from live lessons only in that communication with the student takes place remotely.

This is the main difficulty of this method: the inability of the student to fully concentrate on the lesson.

There will definitely be something more interesting than a boring activity. Managing his attention depends entirely on the experience of the teacher.

How to find students for a tutor?

No matter how well you plan everything, there will be no classes without students. However, students are everywhere and will always be - this is important to remember.

The main thing is to correctly and competently present yourself, your experience in tutoring and respond flexibly to incoming offers.

To find students, you can use advertisements in newspapers, bulletin boards, flyers, etc. This method is most applicable for searching for students in your area or city.

But competent online tutoring on the Internet also implies a competent search for students:

  • Create your own on the Internet, where information about you and your services, your class schedule, location or time of consultations on the Internet via Skype will be indicated. In the future, reviews from your students will be posted on the blog. Here you can publish articles, news, notes. All this will provide an opportunity not only for you to search for your students, but also for your students to find you on the Internet and get to know you in absentia.
  • Connect a system for accepting payments via the Internet to your blog. The feedback section is required.
  • Connect the analytical part of the blog. This will help you understand how in demand your services are and will help you quickly and efficiently correct the information on your blog.

Online tutoring can be combined with the traditional teaching method. But in any case, it is necessary to collect reviews and letters of recommendation.

Engage in self-education and be interested in all the new developments in the field of education. For training, purchase only high-quality visual materials, and be sure to draw up a lesson plan.

This will help distribute the workload evenly, including via the Internet.

A type of online tutoring that only a few are professionally engaged in is distance learning of business processes, motivation and planning.

Tutors in this case are coaches who not only teach business, but help and motivate in achieving the goal.

Each option for providing tutoring services is interesting. It is important to choose exactly what suits the topic, methods and methods of teaching.

The Internet provides enormous opportunities for quality tutoring.

Sincerely, Alexander Gavrin.

It’s no secret that the current 21st century is an information century, which means that the most sold and expensive “product” on the market is knowledge. Remember how much time, money and personal energy you spent on training, assimilation of information, etc. A lot of? Now you need to return the spent resources!

If you think that you studied mathematics or physics at school in vain, uninteresting disciplines in universities, or wasted your time reading a book, I want to make you happy - you are not alone and wrong. Magazine Reconomica interviewed a student who manages to work as a tutor in her free time and earn quite decent money.

At the moment, I am a university student. Those who have been in my shoes know that it is very difficult: either on evening and night shifts, or during training. However, money is always needed and in significant quantities: housing, food, clothing, entertainment... What to do and how to find a way out of this situation? Starting from the very first course, I began to earn in the amounts I needed. I'll reveal my little secrets.

About 65% of young people aged 16 to 24 study at universities, colleges and lyceums, 92% of children under the age of 16 receive knowledge in kindergartens, schools and gymnasiums. How many of them require learning support in the form of tutoring in specific subjects? How many people will be simply too lazy to take a test or write a course or laboratory paper on their own? According to my personal estimates, about a third. Agree, the number turns out to be large.

Typical mistakes beginners make when searching for orders

Working as a tutor is working for yourself. Receiving benefits from students is a profitable business, useful for your personal development, but also to some extent risky and even dangerous. I made a lot of mistakes along the way, many times I moved in the wrong direction and was on the verge of giving up. To prevent you from doing them in the future, I will warn you:

  1. My biggest disappointment and biggest life lesson: not all people are honest. Don’t take people’s word for it, don’t allow them to pay for your services tomorrow, or in a week or two. Believe me, within an hour they will happily forget about their debt.
  2. Don't try to become successful on large sites. In three years since registering as an order executor, I have not received a single one on the following sites: garant.ru, author24.ru, bazarepetitorov.ru. Why are there not a single order on sites with a huge flow of customers? It's all about rating, or experience. The more ratings, the greater the opportunity to receive an order. Accordingly, following this logic, the chances for a beginner are incredibly small. Use small databases, preferably even groups or accounts on social networks.
  3. Don't overestimate your physical capabilities. Under no circumstances should you take on students or orders for any type of academic work in anticipation of using all your free time. Leave at least 1-1.5 hours a day free. Firstly, it will never work out perfectly: stay with some student for 20 minutes; With some task in the test, sit not for 5 minutes, but for half an hour; the bus will be late or you will get stuck in a traffic jam. Secondly, you will quickly get tired of this pace, it’s called.
    4. Do not overestimate your teaching and mental abilities. To begin with, honestly answer the questions “do you know the subject you are going to teach well?” and “Are you well versed in the discipline in which you want to perform work?” If the answer is uncertain or negative, then give up. The second important point is teaching data. Can you present information in an accessible and competent manner? If the answer is positive, check it in practice: explain to your mom/dad/brother/friend some previously unfamiliar topic. As you explain, you will understand whether the profession of a tutor is suitable for you or not.
    5. Inconsistent income and inconsistent sleep. Students and schoolchildren will contact you mainly at the end of the academic semester or year, and the deadlines will be incredibly short. The most profitable months will be December and May, but they are also the most sleepless.

How and how much do tutors earn? All ways to earn money

Many people envy how much tutors in Moscow earn. This could be hundreds of thousands of rubles per month. But only experienced university teachers are paid that much, who take small groups of 3-4 people and train them for the Unified State Exam at a price of 1000 rubles per hour per person and more. I earn much less, and at first it’s impossible to earn that kind of money. I’d rather tell you about what is realistic for a beginner in this profession.

Thanks to three years of experience in the field of education, as well as numerous mistakes, I can confidently say 4 ways you can make money by selling your knowledge.

Method 1. Tutoring

For me personally, the easiest and most enjoyable way to earn money.

If you understand a certain discipline, know how to present information correctly and clearly, and also take responsibility for the student’s success, then this profession is almost ideal.

Your main task is to maintain a competent pricing policy: study how much tutor services cost in your city, adjust for personal experience and age. For example, in Moscow the average cost of 1 hour of lessons with a tutor is 800 rubles. I charge only 450 rubles without a time limit (i.e., as soon as we finish the lesson, it will be so, maybe 40 minutes, maybe 90).

How and where to look for clients

Would you like to receive money during the academic year? Start recruiting clients in August! The search procedure itself is not very complicated:

  • In the middle - end of August, you post an ad with a detachable phone number in the area in which you live.
  • on social networks there are a large number of people who work with databases of tutors and students, a huge number of groups for each city. We join, get added, agree on payment, work with the client and get money. How it works? The person you contact selects a student according to your conditions, but takes a certain “commission” for this. In my case, from 500r they took 100r. Whether it’s a lot or a little, decide for yourself.
  • “Word of mouth” will definitely work if you really understand the discipline being taught and know how to present information.

Method 2. Carrying out work to order

Carrying out school and student work to order includes writing coursework, abstracts, essays, solving tests, laboratory and homework. Coursework can cost from 3 to 15 thousand. Thesis - 20-50 thousand.

Do what is easier for you to work with. If you have a good style, then I recommend working with text orders (coursework, essays, articles, etc.), if you are an analyst by mentality, take on calculation tasks. Searching for clients is similar - VK groups, accounts and word of mouth.

In this case, the discount system works very well: “Bring three friends to complete a similar task, get a 50% discount. Bring five, I’ll do yours for free.”

Method 3. Maintaining thematic groups and accounts on social networks

Learn to look for unique information on your subject, post it regularly and then get paid for advertising. You can also sell assignments to other tutors, as described above, but this is a different story.

Method 4. Remote work via Skype

There are now quite a few different services that provide lessons via Skype. This mainly applies to the study of foreign languages. You can teach Russian to foreigners through English, for example, or work with students from other cities.

It’s difficult to look for clients for this method of communication on your own, it’s just word of mouth, but you can get a job in one of the companies, they provide clients and give piecework payment.

Look on Headhunter for vacancies like “remote English tutor”.

Key success factors for a tutor

Remember, these tips are subjective. Not everyone can cope with these conditions and such a load. Some people give up this venture because of their inability to find a common language with the client, some because of insufficient knowledge, some simply because of their own laziness.

I hope my advice will be useful to you in life and help you have a stable additional income. Yes, I completely forgot to talk about money. Based on personal experience, the average monthly salary of a tutor (the amount of income for the entire year/12) is about 20,000-22,000 rubles. As I already said, you will earn the main amount of money in several “hot” months, when 100 thousand rubles per month is not the limit, so in the off-season it is logical to do something else. Patience and success to you.

The foundation on which success in almost any professional field is based is quality education.

Currently, the services of tutors are in increasing demand, because it will be easier for a well-prepared student to enter a prestigious university, and for a highly qualified student to get a good job.

Some people who need the services of a tutor want to fill gaps in basic knowledge in a particular subject, and some want to seriously delve into a specific area.

Are you thinking about becoming a tutor? It is important to understand that desire alone will not be enough. A profitable home business can be organized if you adhere to a specific action plan. What does it take to achieve success?

Basic requirements

Tutoring is a complex and responsible profession. A well-known stereotype is the belief that this activity is an additional type of income for school and university teachers. However, real masters of their craft do not work either at school or at a university.

The main conditions for organizing a profitable home business are good education and extensive experience. Knowledge of psychology and pedagogy will not be superfluous for a tutor. Practical skills are no less important. The longer a tutor is engaged in a particular field, the more experience he gains, and with experience comes professionalism. Consequently, over time we can talk about increasing tariffs for services provided.

Note

As a rule, information about experience must be taken at its word. To create a business image, it is advisable to ask your students to leave letters of recommendation.

Any person who has a higher education and the intention to pass on their knowledge to others can try themselves as a tutor. However, the difficulty is that not everyone can master this type of activity. To achieve success, you need to have not only knowledge, but also certain personal qualities that are inherent in any good teacher. How to become a tutor whose services are in constant demand? The following qualities will help you achieve success:

  1. Responsibility will allow you to take a serious approach to planning lessons and maintaining discipline in the classroom.
  2. Interest in the taught discipline. A good tutor is distinguished by a constant desire to improve his knowledge and improve teaching methods.
  3. Ability to present material clearly. Even if a person himself is very well versed in a particular issue, he is not always able to explain it to another. An experienced tutor can handle this task easily.
  4. Punctuality will allow you to start and finish classes on time. And time, as you know, is money.
  5. Ability to establish contact with the trainee. The basis for building good relationships with clients is personal charm. Competence in the subject being taught also plays an important role.
  6. Loyalty to the student's mistakes and patience.

If the above qualities are characteristic of you, you can no longer rack your brains about how to become a tutor. It's time to act! First, try yourself in classes with the children of your friends. This will help you gain experience.

Search for students

Currently, invaluable assistance to beginning tutors can be provided by resources on which specialists post their profiles in order to find a job. The information provided includes the city of residence, location of classes (tutor at home or visiting specialist), prices for services, preferred time for classes, education, and work experience.

If you don’t want to post your resume on such sites, you can do it the old-fashioned way by posting advertisements at bus stops, near schools and universities, throwing leaflets in mailboxes, and announcing yourself in newspapers. Creating your own website can bring great success. Currently, classes via Skype are becoming increasingly popular.

Is it necessary to obtain a license?

Tutoring is a form of individual teaching activity that does not require licensing. A diploma is a source of confirmation of relevant qualifications.

Since tutoring is a business activity, to legalize the business it is necessary to obtain an individual entrepreneur certificate. After all the necessary procedures have been completed, you will be given documents. From this moment you become a full taxpayer.

There is no need to be afraid of sharing your income with the state - this is a natural process in the activities of any officially registered entrepreneur. The decision to become an individual entrepreneur will entail an increase in profits, since fewer and fewer people turn to illegally working specialists.

If you are just drawing up a business plan, tutoring can be taken outside the scope of home tutoring. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, open a training center. In this case, you must obtain a license.

Tutor cost

The issue of setting tariffs for the services provided worries many. In an effort to attract as many clients as possible, some newbie tutors set minimum prices. However, this path is wrong.

This will prevent you from being sufficiently motivated to perform at the highest level, and potential students may begin to doubt the quality of your education and services. Remember that a job well done should be paid accordingly. If you don't have experience, set your rates a little lower than average, but don't set the bar too low.

Unfortunately, there are no universal payment calculation methods. The following factors influence how much a home tutor will earn:

  • experience;
  • specialized education;
  • City of residence;
  • location of classes;
  • frequency of lessons;
  • guarantees provided;
  • the uniqueness of the discipline taught.

"Inconvenient" questions

If a student forgot to pay you for a lesson, do not hesitate to remind them of the fee. You are providing a specific service, so talking about money should not be something to be ashamed of. Ask how it is more convenient for the client to pay for classes: for each one separately or for five, for example. Naturally, for the tutor himself, the first option is preferable.

How to achieve success?

To realize what you have planned, it is important to constantly and productively work on yourself. How to become a tutor if you are impatient with students and don't learn new teaching techniques? You will have to radically change your attitude towards the matter, otherwise nothing good will come of it.

The fundamental desire is to enrich the client with new knowledge. It is important to be not only a wise mentor, but also a good friend to the student. Get to work with the idea that there are no hopeless cases. We are all learners, although sometimes this process is not easy.

1. Decide on one single area and become a highly qualified specialist in it. After achieving undoubted success, master a new area of knowledge, if you wish, of course.

2. Apply an individual approach to each client.

3. Be very responsible about the first lesson with a specific student. Try to assess the level of his knowledge, set specific goals and the intensity of the load.

4. Make the item interesting to the client. If you simply force a person to study something, the desired effect from the studies will not be achieved.

5. Allow the student to freely express his own opinion. If it does not coincide with yours, engage in constructive debate.

6. Earn the student's respect. If this is impossible for some reason, refuse to conduct classes with him. Never doubt that a tutor who provides high-level services at home will always have clients.

Conclusion

Tutoring is a successful embodiment of the idea of working from home. Never forget that an impeccable reputation is important to build a successful teaching career. One negative review of your work is worth three positive ones, or even more.

The above tips will help you properly organize your own business. Do not be afraid of difficulties, at the initial stage it is impossible without them. Diligence and interest in what you do will provide you with a good level of income and a solid reputation.

There are two options for a private tutor to increase their income.

Option #1. Increase the number of students.

Option No. 2. Increase the cost of services.

I’ll say right away that the first option is ultimately a dead end. A person has only two arms and two legs and 24 hours in a day (don't forget about this). Moreover, this applies not only to tutors, but also to private specialists in other areas of business. By betting on the first option, sooner or later you will hit an income ceiling, start to get very tired, etc.

However, let's look at 7 ways to start earning more as a tutor for the above two options for increasing income.

For option No. 1.

  1. Increase your audience reach by using additional channels to attract clients for your tutoring business. Roughly speaking, if until today you were looking for students through friends and word of mouth, you need to start using modern Internet marketing tools (create your website, page on social networks, open your channel on YouTube, etc.).
  2. Schedule extra classes for your current students. Those. If you study with each individual student twice a week, you need to switch to a more dense lesson schedule (for example, three times a week).
  3. Create a mini-group. To make the most of your time and earn more, you can teach in a mini-group (not one person, but 2-3 students at a time). Thus, in the same period of time, with almost the same effort, you will earn more money.

For option No. 2.

  1. Change your niche. If you teach elementary school students in the school curriculum, change your niche and start teaching adults. The stakes will naturally increase. Yes, depending on your specifics, you may need to improve your own qualifications. Who said it would be easy 😉
  2. Become No. 1 in your niche. To start making really good money in the tutoring business, you must always strive to become the best in your niche. To do this, you will have to create and also use all available marketing tools. Building a professional reputation and personal brand is not easy work. But don’t forget that first you work for your reputation, and then it starts working for you.
  3. Choose the right target audience (target audience). There are rich students and there are poor ones. You should strive to work with the first category. The rich and the poor have different standards of living, and, therefore, they can be geographically located in different places, have different hobbies and hobbies, visit different establishments and even websites. Take this into account at the stage.
  4. Open your own school. This method is the logical conclusion of the successful activity of any private tutor and allows you to dramatically increase your income level. People will start working for you, and your responsibilities will include management, developing business development strategies, building relationships with clients, etc.

Note. Why do some tutors earn a lot and others earn little?

There is a stereotype (especially among individual teachers of the old formation) that in order to earn good money, you need to constantly improve your qualifications and gain authority among your students. This is certainly true, but they forget one very important point that absolutely cannot be missed in our time. Today it is not qualifications that sell, but recognition, media exposure, and personal brand! At the same time, the qualifications of the tutor are a default factor.

In other words, you are obliged to constantly improve your qualifications as a teacher and a competent specialist in any case. But in order to achieve a good income (conditionally from 100,000 rubles/month), we must not forget about personal marketing! And for young and beginning tutors, this is a huge advantage over their more experienced colleagues 😉 Experience will come over time, but you need to start promoting your services now!

A teacher does not necessarily mean work from 8 to 16, full classes of children, checking homework and a salary of 15-20 thousand. You can teach other people easier and more profitable by working as a tutor.

Below IQReview I figured out how profitable this profession is, what its pros and cons are, and what you need to start working as a tutor.

Who can work as a tutor and what is required for this?

D In order to work as a tutor, the most important thing is to have deep knowledge in your subject (or subjects). If you know the material thoroughly and are able to explain it, other factors will be secondary, although at first there may be problems with finding clients. At the same time, working (you can read about this profession separately) is not necessary at all.

A significant advantagewill be for work higher education.

    Teacher Education . This point is especially relevant for those whoplans to work with children: parents often place high demands on tutors, and want to find not just a specialist in the subject, but a specialist teacher.

  1. Higher specialized education in your field. For example, if you plan to teach English, having a translator diploma will be a significant advantage.

The ideal combination is to have 2 higher educations: pedagogical and specialized, and at the same time have experience as a teacher (or even continue to work). Such a tutor’s chances of quickly gaining a client base increase significantly.

Another advantageis practical work experience. If you received a teaching diploma, but never worked in a school, this will partially reduce your weight as a teacher. Although this nuance is no longer so significant: even graduates of higher educational institutions who have just completed their studies and are experiencing lack of finances, and they will be able to find clients. Unless the rate for an inexperienced teacher will be lower than that of one who has real experience.

P Other factors (age, gender) are secondary and are taken into account infrequently.

About items and their demand

One of the main factors that influence demand and the amount of payment is the subject that the tutor will teach his students.

In first place in terms of demand are foreign languages, primarily English. There is always a consistently high demand for teachers of this subject, among all age groups - from preschoolers to adults. Other foreign languages are less in demand - Chinese, French, German.

Those who teach will also have no problem finding clients:

    T full-time sciences studied at school: physics, chemistry, mathematics (geometry, algebra);

    school p subjects for which the Unified State Exam is taken;

    preschool preparation.

Other items are in less demand, but you can still find clients for them - significant attention is now paid to education.

On the road, at home and online: about work options

R The work of a tutor can be organized in three ways:

  1. At home - the student comes to the teacher.
  2. At home, on Skype.
  3. At the student's home.

For most tutorswork at home - this is the most convenient and preferred option : you don’t need to travel anywhere (which means you save time and effort, and you can take on more students), and in addition, the teacher is protected from possible problems (for example, if something goes missing in the house where the tutor goes, he may be suspected of first of all).

One of the disadvantages of such work is the need to set up a workplace at home. At a minimum, select a room where no one and nothing will interfere with the lesson, and provide the student with the necessary furniture (table and chair). This option is not suitable for students living in a dormitory, as well as for those who rent a room or live with a large number of relatives in a small apartment.

Working as a tutor via Skype - an option that is even more convenient for both the teacher and the student, since no one needs to go anywhere.This is how both tutors and students now increasingly prefer to work.

Online learning is a way thatideal for saving time and effort. In addition, if your students are children, then their parents will not have to worry about their child:he will be at home, under supervision.

The disadvantages of online tutoring include:possible difficulties in explanation. It happens that in the process of studying there is a need to draw something on a piece of paper in order to explain the material more easily. If a student is sitting in front of you and has a piece of paper on his desk, there is no problem with this. But if he communicates with you on Skype, this will be more difficult to do. However, if for communication you do not use the built-in webcam of a laptop, but the camera of a tablet, smartphone, or a camera with a wire, then there will be no problems with this either.

Online tutoring

R tutoring at the student's home - a less common training option. Most often, young tutors who do not yet have a good client base work in this way, usually students and recent graduates.

This method of education is convenient for the client, since he does not need to go anywhere. For a tutor, this option will be convenient if the student lives close to his home (or place of work).

Who uses the services of tutors?

P When you hear the word “tutor,” many people probably immediately have an association: a teacher who earns money by teaching children. In fact, a tutor is not necessarily a teacher, and his clients are not necessarily children.

Almost everyone can use the services.

  1. Adults. They can hire tutors both for their own development and for their career or to obtain a diploma (after all, not everyone enters higher education institutions at the age of 17-18 - there are also those who go to college much later).
  2. Students. This layer of clients for tutors is usually the smallest. Poor students do not have the means to afford such services. Those who have the means often prefer to simply “buy” tests, exams, coursework and diplomas. There are few students who both want to study and have the opportunity to pay a tutor.
  3. Preschool children. Targetclasses in this case can be both preparation for school in specific subjects and general developmental classes.

  4. School age children. The most common and most profitable group of clients. Parents can hire a tutor for their child both in order to “pull him up” in some subject for no reason, or in order to achieve the highest score on the Unified State Examination and pass the entrance exams.

Tutoring for schoolchildren is, although the most profitable, but also the most problematic option. Typically, in this case, parents expect their child to get a high grade (on a test,exam, Unified State Exam). If suddenly the student does notgets the score that was needed - it is often the teacher who is to blame.

Basic rules that a novice tutor should learn

Before starting work, it is advisable to learn and remember a number of rules.

Lesson with a tutor
  1. Remember that you are at work. Not all students may be pleasant to you, not everyone behaves appropriately and politely (this applies to both children and adults), and you will have to deal with this. In especially difficult cases, do not be afraid to refuse work.
  2. Immediately find out the goal that the student sets for himself, the time in which it needs to be done, and evaluate the reality of the result. Perhaps the client wants you to teach a poor graduate in physics in a month, and for him to pass the exam with “excellence” - of course, this will not work.
  3. If the purpose of the classes is to prepare the student, especially for a specific test (test, exam, Unified State Exam), it is recommended to immediately explain to parents that classes with a tutor are not a guarantee of a top score. To a large extent, everything depends on the student. Luck can also have an impact - it is possible that on the test you will get the most difficult ticket, on which your student is just “floating”.
  4. Maintain communication with the student's parents. It doesn’t matter how the classes are going - good or bad - it’s better that they learn about it from the teacher. A child may tell his parents his point of view, not always correctly, not always objectively, so it is recommended to regularly call each other and communicate.
  5. Choose the duration of the lesson based on age. An adult can study for an hour straight without any problems, but a small child is unlikely to do so. Therefore, it is better to study for 45 minutes with preschoolers and primary school students. And if the student can’t stand it (yawns, starts to get distracted, or simply learns the material worse), the lesson can be shortened to half an hour.
  6. Keep a schedule of your classes, especially if there are a lot of clients and they change often. If you have 2-3 students who study on a stable schedule, there should be no problems. But if you have a dozen students, then it’s better to plan your schedule.
  7. Feel free to remind us about payment. Tutoring is a service, which means it must be paid for. If for some reason the client is in no hurry to give the agreed payment, calmly remind him of this.
  8. If you are already a teacher and plan to earn extra money by tutoring, do not rush to quit your main job. Firstly, these classes can be easily combined, and thanks to the main place of work, you can find students. Secondly, official work as a teacher allows you to have paid vacations and sick leave, as well as a fixed and stable income (albeit small). A full-time tutor can earn many times more than a full-time teacher, but it is necessary to develop a client base, which can take more than one month, or even more than one year, in which case school hours will be very useful.

How to find clients?

To search for clients you can use:

  1. Educational institution - if you work as a teacher somewhere. In this case, clients themselves can find you: now it is normal for parents to come to school and ask teachers to “pull up” their child in certain subjects.
  2. Job search notice boards.
  3. Profile sites. Now there are several large online services dedicated specifically to tutoring. Those who offer their services (tutors) and those who want to find a teacher in their city or even in their area (relevant for Moscow) register on them. To search for such sites, enter the query “search for a tutor” or “tutor + your city” into the Yandex search.
  4. Groups on social networks.

If you work with children and have been working for several years, word of mouth will be a good service. Parents willingly recommend a good teacher to their friends, colleagues, and parents of children in their classmates, so additional advertising is not even required.

Advantages and disadvantages of working as a tutor

The advantages of this type of activity include the following factors:

  1. Free schedule and the ability to plan it at your own discretion.
  2. High wages (more about the numbers below).
  3. Possibility to combine with main job.
  4. Ability to work from home, including via Skype.
  5. Lack of management to manage the process and control your work.
  6. The opportunity to make useful contacts (tutor services are not cheap, and therefore they are usually used by wealthy people).

Working as a tutor

However, there are also disadvantages:

  1. The need to (hypothetically) communicate with inappropriate, rude clients.
  2. The need to independently draw up a lesson plan for each student individually.

How much can you earn?

For comparison, let’s immediately give the level of teachers’ salaries in Russia:

  • the average salary of teachers in Moscow is about 30-35 thousand rubles;
  • the average salary of teachers in the northern regions is about 50 thousand;
  • the average salary in other regions is about 15-20 thousand.

At the same time, the teacher can receive additional bonuses - for working as a class teacher, for additional hours, for length of service. Sometimes teachers teach in several educational institutions at the same time.

  • in the regions, a teacher receives approximately 200 rubles for 1 lesson (if you take an income of 20 thousand);
  • in Moscow, a teacher receives about 300-350 rubles for 1 lesson.

Earnings the tutor turns out to be much more interesting:

  • for 1 lesson (1 hour) in English, prices start from 400-500, and on average are 600-700 rubles;
  • exact school sciences will cost less: tutors charge an average of 300-350 rubles for them in the regions, and about 500 in Moscow;
  • preparing subjects for the Unified State Exam will cost about the same: from 300 for the regions and from 500 for Moscow.

For example, let’s calculate: if a tutor has 10 lessons a week at a price of 500 rubles per lesson, then he will receive about 20 thousand per month. That is, a teacher who works part-time for only 10 hours a week as a tutor can significantly replenish family budget.
