How much does a soccer ball weigh? Soccer ball: dimensions of this projectile.

I just answered a similar question. Once again we will have to repeat ourselves, so a soccer ball is a real ball) weighs in the range of 410-450 grams). As you can see, its weight does not reach even half a kilogram.

In childhood, all the boys and girls who played and play football pay little attention to the weight of the football. And now I know, I read a special article, that since the mid-20th century, the weight of the ball has been set in the range from 410 to 450 grams. This soccer ball weight standard continues to this day.

Soccer ball, which is used in football team competitions, weighs 410 - 450 g.

But there are balls that are used to train children and their weight differs depending on the age of the children. So for children under 12 years old, use a ball weighing 369 - 425 g, for children under 8 years old - 340 g, for children under 4 years old, the weight of the ball should not exceed 283.5 g.

About 300 years ago, the weight of a soccer ball was different but agreed upon between the members of both teams; nowadays, in 2015, the standard weight of a regular soccer ball should be no less than no more than this weight: 410-450 grams.

The soccer ball that football teams (or national teams) play with at various matches or championships weighs 410-450 grams, and in ordinary stalls and stores they can sell you a ball that weighs 500 or 600 grams.

For a professional football player, the circumference of the ball is 68-70 centimeters.

Previously, the ball could have any weight (everything was agreed upon by the players =)). They first decided to standardize the ball in 1872. Then they decided that the ball should weigh between 368 and 425 grams. A modern ball weighs between 410 and 450 grams (standards were established in 1937)

You can’t even imagine how many requirements there are for a soccer ball, which is used, for example, at the Olympic Games. There is a whole vault official rules and the parameters of the soccer ball that it must comply with. And its weight should be about 410-450 grams.

Good question and absolutely correct answers.

However, there are other standards for soccer balls developed by the International Football Federation (FIFA), which children play with, as well as futsal balls.

    According to them:

    • The weight of the ball for training children under 4 years old should not exceed 283.5 g. ;
    • children from 4 to 8 years old, play with a ball weighing no more than 340 grams;
    • children aged 8-12 years, and mini-football players, train with balls weighing 369-425 g, i.e. old standard balls (before 1937), for regular official matches.

By the way, I think it would be useful to remember the weight of a soccer ball for playing professional American football, the mass of which is approximately 400 grams.

This is how it comes in different weights: best gift for a boy - a soccer ball!

As I understand it, we are talking about a ball for playing regular football, not American football?

If this is so, then the round soccer ball that football players kick weighs 400-450 grams

Of course, there are different types of soccer balls - from small ones for kids to balls for pros

So when buying a ball at a sports store, ask how much it weighs

The seller must tell you in detail about the ball and its characteristics - including its weight

The soccer ball has 3 layers. Upper made of genuine leather or leatherette. Padding made of pressed cotton or polyester. Inside there is an air chamber made of latex, polyurethane or butyl.

A professional football ball has 5, the most big size and weighs from 410 to 450 grams.

Size has great value when it comes to choosing the right soccer ball for you or your child. The size of the ball must be proportionate to the player.

Soccer ball sizes:

Size 5

Balls of this size are used in all official competitions held under the auspices of FIFA throughout the world. It is also used by young football players aged 12 years and older. This size ball is most widely used in football.

Size 4

Balls of this size are standard for mini-football and are also intended for training children aged 12 years and older. In accordance with FIFA rules, a ball of this size can be made of leather or other suitable materials, the mass of the ball can range from 369-425 g, and the circumference must be between 63.5-66 cm.

Size 3

Balls of this size are intended for training children aged 8 years and older. The mass of the ball does not exceed 340 g, and the circumference does not exceed 61 cm. Typically, balls of this size consist of 32 stitched or glued panels made of synthetic materials or polyvinyl chloride. Sometimes balls of this size are made from 18 or 26 panels.

Size 2

Balls of this size are also used for advertising purposes, but also for teaching children aged four years and older. The ball is made of synthetic materials, plastic or material (polyvinyl chloride). The maximum circumference is 56 cm, and the weight does not exceed 283.5 g. Balls of this size are best suited for training and improving ball skills. The ball can consist of 32 or 26 panels.

Size 1

Balls of this size are used primarily for advertising and display logos or messages. They are usually made of synthetic materials, consist of 32 panels (12 pentagons and 20 hexagons), and their circumference does not exceed 43 cm. These models are no different in structure from standard balls, only inferior to them in size.

Wondering how to improve your game? How about we start with the simplest, yet most important thing - a soccer ball? It's common knowledge that soccer involves technical footwork, but it really comes down to how good your soccer ball is and how well it adapts to your rhythm. Whether you coach a team, play on your own, or have a child in a soccer league, knowing the ins and outs of choosing the right soccer ball will give you a huge advantage.

What is a soccer ball?

A soccer ball has three main components: the cover, the lining, and the bladder.

Coating:

The outer body of a soccer ball consists of panels made of synthetic materials or a combination of them, stitched or glued. Soccer balls are rarely made from leather as it tends to absorb moisture, making the ball heavier. As a rule, the material used in creation is PU (polyurethane) or PVC (polyvinyl chloride). Number of panels or sections outer shell varies depending on design. Most pro balls are a 32 panel design. More panels mean a rounder, more stable ball.

Stitching:

The panels are attached by gluing or stitching using five-layer polyester thread. The design of these 32 polygons is called a truncated icosahedron - not the closest to a ball geometric figure, but this is exactly how the technologically optimal number of seams between the pieces is achieved, and the spherical shape is given to the ball due to the air pressure pumped inside.

Lining:

Four or more layers of polyester-cotton lining are placed between the body and chamber to provide the ball with high strength, good shape and elasticity.

Camera:

Under the four layers lies the part that contains air, made of synthetic butyl or natural latex, sometimes polyurethane. A latex bladder retains air for a shorter period of time than a butyl bladder, but it has advantages over bladders made from butyl or polyurethane in softness, rebound and elasticity.

How to choose a soccer ball?

There are several things to consider when choosing a soccer ball:

  • Soccer ball type
  • Design
  • Design
  • Size
  • Quality
  • Durability
  • Performance

Various types of Select, Nike, Adidas soccer balls:

Soccer balls come in a variety of sizes, materials and designs. There are three main categories of outdoor soccer balls: high-end professional soccer tournament balls, soccer match balls, and practice balls. All three differ in their range of prices, sizes, materials, designs and more. There are also indoor soccer balls, so-called mini soccer balls for gyms.

Design:

Footballs are manufactured in three types of panel designs: 18, 26 and 32 panels. Each of them can be used for football games, although the 32-panel ones are the most common.

How does soccer ball design affect performance?

Companies are constantly looking for new ways to improve appearance their soccer balls, which means constant experimentation, new ideas and interesting designs. Design often comes down to personal preference.

How long does it take to use a soccer ball?

It depends on the design, how often you use it and how well you take care of it. Check the manufacturer's warranty. Many new soccer balls are manufactured with a one to two year warranty. Under normal conditions, frequent use You can count on at least a couple of seasons.

Remember that good soccer games start and end with a soccer ball!

One of the best manufacturers balls is the SELECT brand.

SELECT Company was founded in 1947 by Eigil Nielsen, goalkeeper of the Danish national football team. He competed in 28 national matches from 1940-1951, in one of which Denmark won bronze at Olympic Games in London in 1948.

In Eigil Nielsen's day, top players could not live separate from their sport, so he decided to become a sports psychologist and also worked in the shoe and leather industry. At that time he created the SELECT football brand.

In 1951, Eigil Nielsen entered into an agreement with the Danish Football Association to supply balls for matches of the national football team. As something completely new, SELECT football had no analogues. The ball retained its round shape much better than others and the seam was not a hindrance when handling the ball. This improvement turned into a radical, new invention.

In those days, all balls were made from eight sections of cowhide, which most closely resembled the orange hue in color. 18 oblong lines were used for fastening before SELECT, in 1962, introduced one of the greatest inventions in football history - the 32-section ball.

In 1974, SELECT moved away from cowhide and made the first hand-sewn synthetic ball. This material quickly became popular and began to be used instead of genuine leather. Today, almost all balls are made of artificial leather, regardless of the brand.

All types of football and handball tournaments still use balls based on Eigil Nielsen's 32-section principle.

SELECT is an innovative company with social responsibility.

Today, SELECT is one of the world's leading manufacturers of hand-stitched balls and produces approximately 3 million models per year. SELECT is recognized as an innovator in the field of quality balls and is represented by its own sales and distribution network in more than 50 countries.

SELECT's head office is located in Glostrup, near Copenhagen. The balls are manufactured by Anwar Khawaja Industries (AKI) in Pakistan.

If you love playing soccer, then you've most likely wondered how much a soccer ball weighs. Of course, in most cases such a question will not come to mind, but sometimes you want to know the details about what equipment everyone plays football with. It turns out that everything is not as simple as it might seem at first glance. The fact is that there are different soccer balls, and each of them has its own standards. So if you are interested in how much it weighs, then first of all you should determine what kind of ball we are talking about. There are five different standards, each of which has its own purpose and, of course, its own size and weight.

Size 1

When you are watching TV and see an advertisement for a soccer ball or some other soccer product, the question that may well come to your mind is how much does the soccer ball you see on the screen weigh? However, you don't have to wonder about this because the size 1 ball is most often used on the screen or on advertising banners. It is not suitable for playing football and is a promotional product - accordingly, it has no weight standards. Most often, it is significantly smaller in size than professional balls, so it has less weight. So don't pay attention to promotional products. If you want to know how much a soccer ball that is actually used in the game weighs, then you need to look at other sizes.

Size 2

The second size is used to create balls that small children use to train. Also, even professional football players practice their technique with their help, since these balls are much smaller and lighter than standard ones. How much should a soccer ball of this size weigh? Its weight is extremely small - it should not exceed 280-285 grams. However, these numbers by themselves do not yet mean anything. Because the question immediately arises: how much does a soccer ball weigh at the championship of professional teams? After all, now there is simply nothing to compare with. Therefore, it is worth continuing to consider the sizes of the balls and their corresponding weight parameters.

Size 3

The next size is intended for training youth teams from 8-10 years old and older. At this age, young football players already have a more developed body, their limbs become stronger, and therefore the weight of the ball increases sharply - from 280 to 340 grams. However, it is worth noting that it should not exceed this indicator, because then it will already have to be classified as “Size 4”.

Size 4

The fourth size is already much more common - it is intended for playing futsal, as well as for women's football. Depending on the purposes, this ball can have different weight ranges. For example, to play mini-football, it must weigh at least 370, but not more than 425 grams. If we are talking about women's football, then the weight of the ball should not exceed 390 grams, but cannot be lower than 350 grams. This size also includes futsal balls, the weight of which should be in the range from 400 to 440 grams.

Size 5

Well, it's time to take a look at the ball that is produced in huge quantities and is used more often than all four previous sizes combined. The fifth size is used for playing professional football, in all championships at local or international level. Its weight should not exceed 450 grams at the start of the game and should not fall below the end of the game. These balls undergo rigorous testing before they are mass produced and supplied for use in various competitions around the world.

The birthplace of futsal or mini-football is Brazil, on whose famous beaches arose in the 20s of the last century. a new game, which quickly crossed borders and gained popularity in most countries of South America.

In 1930, the first rules of the game were developed, and in the 50s, national federations began to emerge, which in 1960 united a confederation of South American countries. On its basis, in 1971, the International Federation of Indoor Football, abbreviated as FIFUSA, arose.

In 1982, FIFUSA hosted the first Futsal World Championship. The game began to spread in Europe, although the rules of the game were somewhat different from the rules established in South American countries. The game differed not only in the rules, in the requirements for goals scored from outside the penalty area, in contact wrestling, in the replacement of players, but also in the size and weight of the ball. However, thanks to the same roots, there was much in common between sports disciplines. Fighting games were played on courts of equal size, generally corresponding to handball courts. The gates were also borrowed from the “hand ball”. There is also a rule adapted from basketball: if a team’s players have collectively committed more than five rule violations, each subsequent one is punishable by a penalty. Game time is limited to two halves of twenty minutes.

The growing popularity of “minor football” attracted the attention of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), which took under its auspices the type of “minor football” that was guided by the European version of the rules. This game is called mini-football.

In 1989, FIFA held the first mini-football world championship, which was won by... Brazil. Thus, two competing federations emerged, one of which “played! According to the new FIFA rules, and the other according to the old ones, from FIFUS.

In a situation of rivalry between closely related sports, the one that had more financial resources began to win, i.e. powerful FIFA. Naturally, a number of Brazilian futsal players chose to switch to the more promising mini-football. A way out of the current situation, i.e. the existence of two parallel organizations could lead to the entry of FIFUS into the ranks of FIFA as a collective member. To facilitate integration, FIFA is gradually reforming the rules of futsal, achieving rapprochement with futsal. To emphasize the unity of the two games, FIFA renamed futsal to futsal. So now mini-football does not exist - there is futsal according to FIFA rules and futsal according to FIFUS rules.

Futsal and mini-football in Russia

Already in 1959, i.e. a year after entering Europe, futsal began to be cultivated in Latvia, which was then part of the USSR. Then amateurs in Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Lithuania and Georgia began to become interested in it. In 1972, Dynamo Kiev took part in a mini-football tournament organized in Austria. After this, it was decided to use mini-football tournaments as stages of pre-season training for major league teams. Soon, mini-football was officially recognized: a mini-football committee arose within the structure of the USSR Football Federation and the first national championship was held.

After the collapse of the USSR, the Russian Mini-Football Association (AMFR), a member of FIFA, took up the development of mini-football. Even earlier, in 1991, the Russian Futsal Federation arose, which became a member of FIFUSA. The two organizations practically did not overlap with each other in their activities. Each held the Russian Championship in its own way, and each achieved success on the international stage. Russian national teams, both mini-football and futsal, won European championships, and Russia also has trophies at the youth and women's levels.

Futsal ball size

Historically, in Russia they play with a futsal (previously called mini-futsal) ball of size 4. The weight of these balls is 400–440 g, the diameter of the circle is 62–64 cm. At the same time, Select designated such balls as balls of size 3, because objectively they do not fit the FIFA criteria for a size 4 ball, namely the circumference should be 63.5–66 cm. Thus, a real futsal (mini-soccer) ball has a size of 3.5, but Select designated it as 3, and in Russia it called 4. For all models of futsal (mini soccer) balls designed in 2008, the size will be indicated in cm, i.e. the circumference will be indicated.

The Select assortment also includes an Indoor Five model specifically for classic mini-football, weighing 330–360 g and with a circumference of 64–66 cm, those. Slightly larger and lighter than the traditional Russian size 4 ball. The Indoor Five model was developed specifically for indoor sports, for playing on hard surfaces in collaboration with the federations of the Scandinavian countries. Select designates its Indoor Five size as 4, but for “our” futsal, it is a size 4.5. Despite the parameters differing from those traditional for Russia, the ball is very popular among buyers.

The weight of a soccer ball at the start of the match is no more than 450 grams; by the end of the game, the ball weighs no less than 410 grams. Soccer ball weight standards were established in 1937; previously, the permissible ball weight ranged from 368 to 425 grams. Other parameters of a soccer ball include its shape: it must be round, with a circumference from 68.6 to 71.7 cm.

There are several sizes of soccer balls.

A soccer ball is “long-lived.” At the initial stage of the emergence of football, it was made from Bladder animals.

Such equipment was not durable and often broke during a fight on the field. 1838 was the year of the invention of vulcanized rubber and the date of the appearance of the first ball made of rubber. Thanks to this discovery, soccer balls began to be mass-produced in industrial settings.

The weight of a soccer ball at the start of the match is no more than 450 grams.

The ball consists of several elements: a tire, a lining and an inner tube. Initially, the tire was made of genuine leather; the tires of modern balls are made using synthetic materials, since genuine leather tends to absorb moisture and “weight” the ball. The main materials used to make tires are polyurethane and polyvinyl chloride.

The lining is inner layer between the cover and the chamber. This element is an important quality component of the ball. The rebound of the ball and its shape depend on what material was used in manufacturing.

The ball's chamber is made of butyl, latex or polyurethane. The latex chamber retains air for a shorter time, but compared to the butyl chamber, it is softer and more elastic.

How much does a basketball weigh?

Basketball (from the English basket - basket, ball - ball) is a popular sport that has a large number of fans in the world. This game uses a ball that has a recognizable shape and color. The spherical orange ball is often found on sports symbols and is difficult to confuse with other types of sports balls.

The weight of a basketball depends on its size:

Circumference, mmWeight, g
Size 3
560-580 300-330
Size 5
690-710 470-500
Size 6
720-740 500-540
Size 7
750-780 567-650

The largest and heaviest ball is officially used in men's team competitions. The weight of a women's basketball is less than that of a men's basketball and is 500-540 grams.

The ball consists of eight panels, the borders of which are highlighted with a black stripe. Distinctive feature A basketball is its surface, which is covered with dots that make it easier for the athlete to grip the sports equipment. In total there are from 10 to 35 thousand, depending on the model of the ball.

How much does a volleyball weigh?

Volleyball is the lightest known ball used for sports competitions. Its circumference is 65-67 cm; weight - 260-280 g. An important parameter for a volleyball ball is internal pressure, it is 0.300 - 0.325 kg/cm 2 (294.3-318.82 hPa). Volleyballs used in beach volleyball, it's a little lower.

The surface of the sports equipment can be white or colored; this parameter is not regulated. It consists of six panels, each of which has three rows or sections. The birthplace of volleyball is the USA. The creators of the game included interesting elements from tennis, handball, basketball and baseball into this sport. The official year of the birth of volleyball is considered to be 1895.

The volleyball originally used the bladder from a basketball. Throughout its history, the volleyball has undergone a major transformation: first it decreased in size, then a winding and an outer covering, which was made of leather, appeared on the camera, all design changes were associated with a change in the appearance of the volleyball.

The final modernization of the ball was the release in 2008 of a projectile with smoother joints, which began to be glued together rather than stitched, which changed the aerodynamic characteristics of the ball for the better.

How much does a baseball weigh?

A baseball, unlike its “colleagues” football, volleyball and basketball, has a more modest size and weight. The girth of the ball is from 22.9 to 23.5 cm, weight is 142 grams. The design of the ball is multi-layered: it has a cork or rubber core, wrapped in yarn and a top leather covering. To make one ball, one kilometer or more of yarn is required. During World War II, to save materials, the core of a baseball was made from golf balls. Modern equipment is made using synthetic and polymer materials, but is considered to be of low quality and at important competitions, balls made from natural materials are still used.

During one game, up to several dozen balls can be replaced due to the appearance of chips and cracks on them, as well as in cases where the projectile was caught by a fan. In some cases, players ask to return a thrown ball when a ball flight record has been set, in exchange for a trophy, the fan receives a souvenir autographed by the player.

The replacement of balls was made mandatory after the death of a baseball player due to a sports projectile hitting the head, due to the fact that the victim did not see the contaminated ball at dusk.

Baseball players are equipped with serious equipment that protects them from injury, since the average speed of a baseball thrown by a player can be up to 95 miles per hour, equal to the speed of a car on the highway (about 153 km/h). Speed record and limit physical capabilities a person is considered to be a ball traveling at 105 miles per hour.

Precautions are required in any sports game using soccer, basketball or volleyball balls. Despite the light weight of the ball, this sports equipment can develop significant speed when thrown or hit. Therefore, when preparing for competitions, serious attention is paid to the safety of the participants in the games: equipment and protective equipment for athletes.
