It's no secret that music occupies an important place in our lives. And it is not only intended for entertainment, but has the ability to have a noticeable impact on the mental, emotional and physical state of a person. And the fact has already been scientifically substantiated that not every direction in music has a beneficial effect on the human body. Modern rock music is often cited as an example of a negative impact on the psyche. This popular style has its own special distinctive features, namely a rigid rhythm, monotonous repetitions, volume, superfrequencies, and lighting effects. They just don’t have the best effect on our body. Rock music also imposes its own templates of worldview, indicates how to dress, how to think... People weakly live according to these templates. This music affects the motor center, emotional, intellectual sphere human life. And, despite numerous studies by doctors, psychologists, scientists, and musicians about the impact of rock music on humans, this topic still continues to be relevant.

In our modern world Few people have not been influenced by the elements of rock music, especially among teenagers. And so we decided to conduct our research on the impact of rock music on humans, using the example of students from school No. 12.

1. Introduction.

It's no secret that music occupies an important place in our lives. And it is not only intended for entertainment, but has the ability to have a noticeable impact on the mental, emotional and physical state of a person.

Music is a flow of energy. It controls our emotions, mind, and mood. Music is a power that can be used for both good and evil. It is a factor that sets the direction of development of civilization.

Aristotle also said: “One must always beware of introducing a new type of music as possible danger for the entire state, since a change in the style of music always affects the most important aspects of the political structure.”

In the 19th century scientist Dogel described the specific effects of exposure to music, noting changes in blood pressure, heart rate, depth and rhythm of breathing. The outstanding neuropsychiatrist Bekhterev came to the same conclusions, stating a positive effect. Moreover, the observation concerned not only humans, but also animals. Academician B. Petrovsky, a famous Russian surgeon, accompanied particularly complex operations with classical music, noticing the positive effect of music on the functioning of the body. And many such facts can be cited.

And, probably, each of us has favorite musical compositions to listen to at different periods of life, for different moods. Perception various styles Everyone has their own music: some people love classics, while others need to hear the chords of hard rock. Nevertheless, science has established certain patterns of the influence of various music on the mental and physical state of a person.

And today we want to tell you about our research on how rock music affects us, teenagers.

The purpose of our work:

Find out and explore how rock music affects people.

Tasks:

1. study literary and musical sources on this issue;
2 measure the blood pressure and pulse of students before, during, and after playing rock music;
3. conduct a survey of students;
4. process and analyze the results obtained

2. Main part.

Rock music is a general name for a number of areas of popular music. The word "rock" - swing - in in this case indicates the rhythmic sensations characteristic of these directions associated with a certain form of movement.

It has been scientifically proven that modern rock music has a negative impact on the human psyche. Why is this happening?

Ways rock music influences the human psyche:

1. Hard rhythm

2. Monotonous repetitions

3. Volume, superfrequencies

4. Light effect

Rhythm is generally the most powerful means of influencing a person. Also in ancient times shamans could, with the help of certain musical rhythms that they beat on their instruments, put a person into a trance. Rhythm captures the motor center of the brain, stimulates certain functions endocrine system. But the most powerful blow falls on parts of the brain. Rhythm can influence the ability to analyze, reason, and logic. You can even achieve that the person will be completely neutralized. There have been cases when concussions, sound burns, hearing loss and even memory loss occurred at rock concerts. Rock music, despite all its strength and power, belongs to the category of monotonous, motor-like sounds, perceiving which listeners can fall into a passive state. Very often, it is the monotony and enumeration of high and low frequencies that the rock band “Metallika” uses.

Next up is the volume factor. Our ear best perceives sound at 55-60 decibels. A sound of 70 decibels is considered loud. And on the site where the equipment and speakers are installed during rock concerts, the volume is 120 decibels, and in the middle of the site 160 decibels (it must be said that 120 dB is the volume of the roar of a jet plane taking off!). What happens to the body? The adrenal glands secrete the stress hormone adrenaline. But since the impact of the stimulus does not stop, the production of adrenaline does not stop either. And it, adrenaline, erases some of the information imprinted in the brain. A person forgets what happened to him or what he has ever studied, that is, he degrades mentally. Medical scientist David Elkin from the United States literally proved the deadly effect of loud, piercing sounds by placing a raw egg next to a loudspeaker before a concert: after 3 hours the whites had curdled, and the egg turned out to be soft-boiled. We invite you to listen to one of the most powerful and dynamic rock bands. Rock band "Lordi"

The technical equipment of rock performances, such as the lighting effect, is also not harmless. Many consider them simply decoration for the concert. In fact, a certain alternation of light and darkness, especially with loud music, leads to a significant weakening of orientation. Flashes of light, following one after another to the rhythm of music, stimulate mechanisms associated with hallucinatory phenomena, dizziness, and nausea.

If a laser beam is used for lighting effects, it can cause:

Retinal burn

The formation of a blind spot on it,

Decreased orientation

Decreased reflex reaction speed.

2.1. Study

Our Research: Measurement Blood Pressure and heart rate in seventh grade students (8 people) before playing music, during (10 minutes) and after listening to music.

You can see the results of the study in the diagram:

1) during the sound of music, blood pressure rises, and after the sound it sharply decreases;

2) while listening to rock music, the pulse quickens, and after listening it sharply weakens. Because of sharp changes Blood pressure and pulse rate decrease, heart rhythm is disturbed. This can lead to disruption of the cardiovascular system, and because other organs are connected specifically with the cardiovascular system, then we can observe a disruption in the functioning of the organs of the whole body.

As a result of a survey (10 people), it was found that not all teenagers listen to rock music. Probably due to the fact that the brain compares musical rhythms with its own rhythms, and each person has rhythms with their own frequency, so preferences for music are different. But when listening to rock music, most teenagers experience deviations from the norm: anger and rage appear, although while listening, teenagers set themselves the goal of relaxing. And any deviation from the norm negatively affects the health of the body.

3. Conclusion

Thanks to this work, we found out that rock music has an ambiguous effect on the human body. AND this topic Not only can it interest people and teenagers, but it will also allow them to learn much more about the benefits or harms of their musical preferences. For a long time, doctors, psychologists, and scientists have been telling us that the rhythm of rock music, the frequency of sound, the alternation of light and darkness - all this destroys the human being, perverts it. However, today there are few people who have not been influenced by the elements of rock music. Of course, no one says that if a person passionately loves rock, then he has the whole set of negative qualities. No, he is simply most predisposed to them, and when appropriate combinations of other factors appear, he will certainly be subject to their destructive influence. And an alternative to heavy negative impact Rock is classical music, especially the works of Mozart. Humanistic scientists persistently recommend that parents, from the first days of a child’s life, even in the uterine period, let him listen to Mozart in order to influence all aspects of his development with a high positive effect.

The author of this article was an outstanding surgeon of our time, one of the founders of domestic thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, laureate of the Lenin Prize, the First National Prize for the best doctors of Russia, the St. Andrew the First-Called Prize, the Prize named after. A.N. Bakulev, academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, editor-in-chief of the journal "Bulletin of Surgery named after I.I. Grekov", vice-president of the International Slavic Academy, president of the State Orthodox Foundation, member of the Writers' Union of Russia, honorary member of many domestic and foreign academies and scientific societies that have made a significant contribution to the annals of world surgery, included in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's oldest practicing surgeon (during his lifetime). He was the permanent chairman, founded at the end of 1988. Uglov classified tobacco and alcohol as “legal drugs,” citing the work of A.N. Timofeev “ Neuropsychiatric disorders with alcohol intoxication." , Uglov also included rock music, the spread of which, in his opinion, is supported by the Order of the Illuminati.

Over the past four decades, the world has been invisibly, but more and more perceptibly, destroying consciousness, and through it, morality as the highest and most responsible function of the intellect. Perhaps for the first time in the history of mankind, music, songs and rock and roll stars were chosen for this sabotage.

At first, no one took this music seriously. It was believed that this was another fashion that would soon pass, as was the case with the Charleston, boogie-woogie and twist. But, as Jean Paul Regimbal writes, “The socio-cultural phenomenon of rock and roll, which emerged in the early fifties, unleashed such a wave of dirt, slag and human sacrifice on the world that thirty years later it became the most powerful destructive force for body, soul and heart that has ever been came from the depths of hell itself.”

Music can be music, that is, one of the highest forms of art, only when it keeps pace with progress and even shows it the right path. Meanwhile, progress is necessarily directed along the path of goodness, humanism, human relations with each other, friendship and mutual understanding. Progress is the creation of a better, nobler, accessible to all people. This is why music is given great importance in education best properties human soul.

Aristotle wrote: “Music can have a certain effect on the ethical side of the soul. And since music has such properties, it should be included among the subjects of youth education.”

Of course, music is understood and loved more by the person who is more prepared for it, that is, the one who has a musical education or natural abilities and interest in music. It is enough to point out martial music, which raises people into battle stronger than a verbal order. Appropriate music is used as a healing factor in a number of medical institutions.

However, music built on the frequency and strength of sound, beyond the limits of what is easily digestible and has a beneficial effect on a person, can and does have a sharply negative effect on the psyche, intellect and behavior of a person. And while a person’s musical education or innate abilities perceive these sounds as irritating and even causing a painful state, in people of little culture, with rough character traits, prone to various anomalies, these sounds cause excitement, reaching the point of ecstasy.

Due to the fact that rock music has a sharply negative impact not only on the intellect, psyche, moral and ethical state of young people, but also on physical health person, I allow myself to express my opinion on this issue, based not only on my own perception and understanding of this music, but also on the study of scientific literature devoted to this problem.

First of all, it must be said that not all young people, as is often said, are attracted and captivated by this music. As I already said, people (including young people) brought up on classical and folk music perceive rock and even jazz music negatively. One young woman, a doctor, with good musical abilities, told me that she, as a student at a provincial university, came to Moscow during the next boom of jazz and rock music. She decided to listen to this music in various performances. Having bought tickets for all the concerts of this kind that took place in Moscow at that time, she listened to them all, although after the first evening she no longer wanted to go there. Nevertheless, she carefully listened to all the performances - and nothing but a negative attitude towards such music! Each time it was strange and incomprehensible to her why some of the youth became ecstatic from those elements of the concert that evoked the most negative emotions in them.

Consequently, the judgment that all young people “go crazy” about this music, and only older people do not understand it, is fundamentally wrong. It's not a matter of age, but of intelligence and upbringing.

What is rock and roll, to which television and those newspapers pay so much attention? for a long time(and some to this day) also take a position in relation to alcohol to encourage “cultural consumption”?

The development of rock and roll began in the West, in the USA, by arranging the beat rhythms and blues of the black population of the South. The term "rock and roll" itself means two movements human body during sexual fun and borrowed from African-American ghettos. The main emphasis is on the beat (a beat is a continuous repetition of regular pulsations combined with shortened rhythms, which are usually provided by a drummer and played by a bass guitar. It is the beat that characterizes the rhythm of rock music). There are hard, heavy, bad and caustic; then satanic and finally punk rock, which is also considered not the end of this ascent to madness.

Already in hard rock, the beat is perceived in such a way that it strongly excites sexual instincts and, as a rule, attracts people with sexual pathology. That's why Elvis Presley encouraged young people to cast aside sexual taboos and took pleasure in exciting the public not only with his music and words, but mainly with the obscene and provocative passages of a strongly sexual nature with which he accompanied his performances. The emotions he evoked led in a number of cases to changes in life habits, clothing, the emergence of a fashion for long hair, etc. Under the influence of such musicians, indignation, frenzy, mass hysteria, and sexual excesses arose, especially among girls.

Hard rock is characterized primarily by the improvement of rhythm (beat), volume and frenzy of beats. The sound intensity reaches 120 decibels, which exceeds the limit of human hearing, which is set to an average intensity of 55 decibels, loud sound corresponds to 70 decibels. Added to the erotic pulsations of the beat is the effect of irritating noise, which by its nature leads to nervous overstrain, the appearance of an uncontrollable feeling of dissatisfaction and the desire to satisfy it at all costs. The purpose of this music is to create an ocean of frantic sounds: drumming, cymbals, trumpets, high-pitched screams, electronic synthesizers - all combined for a decisive attack on the feverish crowd. As experts write, They don’t listen to hard rock, they immerse themselves in it in accordance with the ritual of sex, seduction and rebellion.

The 90s saw the birth of punk rock (in England the word "punk" refers to prostitutes of both sexes, Americans translate the word as "scum"), the goal and philosophy of which is to lead the audience directly to suicide, collective violence and systematic crimes. The limit of punk in the sphere of human and musical experience is the ability to inflict a bloody wound on a partner with a razor blade sewn into jeans or a shirt, and beating him, already wounded, with a bracelet covered with spikes and nails - that is, leading to the extreme degree of sexual perversion, to sadism.

Who supports, finances the development of rock music and promotes its further spread? It is believed that rock music is called upon to develop a socio-cultural, political, economic, moral and spiritual revolution. And this revolution is part of a much larger project conceived and financed by the Illuminati. The Illuminati is an old mystical order founded on May 1, 1776 by several apostates, notably Canon Rocca, the English bishop Albert Pike. This society dedicated to Satan aims at the worldwide takeover of all economic, political, military, religious and other powers with the goal of establishing one single world government. To completely dominate the youth, indifferent to politics and society, the Illuminati began to distribute rock products on a massive scale in order to ensure the worldwide distribution of the most aggressive groups. This component a global conspiracy conceived by the Illuminati, the explicit goal of which is to educate youth in the spirit of cosmopolitanism, corresponding to the rise to power of one single world government.

The consistent severance of ties with family, nationality, culture and ethics leads to the fact that young people lose their sense of belonging to society, to the country, but feel like citizens of the world without faith and law, without any responsibilities towards anyone. , except the Illuminati and Satan, although the consequences of addiction are not conscious.

This state of mind is manifested in the growing number of divorces, broken families, and the proliferation of works and social movements, focused on individualization and self-satisfaction (egoism). This philosophy is too narrow to leave room for love, that is, one of the most beautiful and noble feelings.

The degree of influence of rock music and the spread of discos is indicated by the following data: according to the results of a survey conducted in 1981 in the USA, 87% of all teenagers spend from 3 to 5 hours a day listening to rock music. Later, the spread of this music increased even more. With the advent of more advanced equipment, they spend 7 or 8 hours doing this activity. Of the records sold annually around the world, 90% are rock music recordings (130 million per year). To this we must add another 100 million rock albums.

Is it possible that this influx of musical frenzy has no effect on the physical, psychological, mental, moral and spiritual planes on both individuals and masses? What data allow us to assess the seriousness and depth of the effect of rock and roll on young people?

I. FROM A MEDICAL POINT OF VIEW

A) Physical effects. Numerous studies have been conducted to evaluate the impact of rock music, which causes severe damage to hearing, vision, spine, endocrine and nervous systems in people addicted to this genre of music. Bob Larsen of Cleveland identified significant changes in the body in more than 200 patients. He noted that this music caused changes in pulse, breathing, and increased secretion of the endocrine glands, in particular the glands that regulate life processes in the body. When the melody rises, the larynx contracts; when the melody falls, the larynx relaxes.

Basal metabolism and blood sugar levels undergo changes during listening. These effects increase as the sound intensity increases. At levels above 80 decibels, the effect of music causes discomfort, at a level of 90 decibels it becomes harmful. During rock concerts, measurements show 106-108 decibels in the center of the hall and almost 120 decibels near the orchestra. Therefore, young people listening to this music experience hearing changes to a degree that is usually characteristic of people over 50 years of age.

In addition, the number of people with cardiovascular diseases and balance disorders in the body is increasing sharply.

The intensity of special lighting and the use of laser beams cause irreversible destruction of vision, since if the beam penetrates the eye, it can cause a burn to the retina, causing the formation of a blind spot. In addition, short flashes of light, following one after another to the rhythm of music, cause dizziness, nausea, and hallucinatory phenomena.

Adam Knist writes: “The main effect of rock music stems from its noise level, which causes hostility, exhaustion, narcissism (narcissism), panic, indigestion, hypertension, and unusual drug states. Rock is not a harmless pastime. Rock is a drug more deadly than heroin that is poisoning the lives of our youth.

As for the sexual plane, here, according to Larsen, the following changes occur: low-frequency vibrations created by the efforts of the bass guitar, to which is added the repetitive action of the beat, significantly influence the state cerebrospinal fluid. This fluid, in turn, directly affects the glands that regulate the secretion of hormones. As a result, the balance of sex and adrenal hormones is disrupted, and a change in the level of insulin in the blood occurs. As a result, the functions of controlling moral inhibition fall below the threshold of tolerance or are completely neutralized.

B) Psychological action. No matter how destructive the physiological consequences of fate are, its psychological consequences even more terrible, since rock music inflicts deep psycho-emotional trauma on its listeners. Here are some consequences of these injuries:

1) Change in emotional reactions resulting from curbing the desire for uncontrollable violence.
2) Loss of control over the ability to concentrate.
3) Weakening control over mental activity and will.
4) Nervous-sensory overexcitation, causing euphoria, suggestibility, hysteria and even hallucinations.
5) Serious impairment of memory, brain function and neuromuscular coordination.
6) A hypnotic or cataleptic state that turns a person into the likeness of a fool or a robot.
7) Depressive state, reaching the point of neurosis and psychosis, especially when combining rock music and drugs.
8) The tendency towards suicide and murder increases with prolonged listening to rock music.
9) Self-mutilation in its various forms, especially in large gatherings.
10) Unbridled impulses for destruction, vandalism, rebellion after concerts and rock festivals.

II. CHANGING MORALITY

The consequences of rock music are related to the main themes of rock and roll: thinking, willpower, free will and moral consciousness are so strongly influenced by all the senses that their abilities for sound judgment and resistance are greatly blunted, and sometimes not at all. controlled. In this state of moral and mental oppression, it gives the green light to the revelry of the most wild, previously suppressed impulses - hatred, anger, jealousy, vindictiveness, even murder and suicide.

The best moral and spiritual education cannot withstand for long the erosion of consciousness, heart and spirit that is caused by prolonged listening to rock music.

III. SOCIAL CONSEQUENCES OF ROCK

Rock concerts and festivals create such mass hysteria that riots and fights break out in the midst of sensational events that spontaneously arise during a concert or public demonstration. Here are some examples. In Vancouver, Canada, it took 30 minutes for 100 people to be seriously injured in connection with a rock festival. In Cincinnati (USA) at the River Coliseum in December 1975, 11 young people were trampled to death by 10 thousand spectators who tore down barriers to enter the festival. In Melbourne, Australia, more than a thousand people were seriously injured in connection with a rock festival. 650 young people died during one weekend in Los Angeles. A report about this was made by a California television studio.

In his scientific work“Big Beat” F. Garlock wrote: “The participants in chaos and disorder could not have found a more perfect engine for transmitting and hammering their ideas and philosophy into the young generation of various countries of the world. Thus, in the two countries where rock and roll is most popular, the USA and England, not only is there high level decline among youth, but also fast growth the number of crimes committed by young people, the birth of illegitimate children, various types of violence, murders, suicides.”

Scientists believe that rock and roll over the past 30 years has caused such a deep corruption of youth, which has not yet been recorded in history. While billions are being spent on air and water pollution and noise control, there are no resources, no means, no strong will to overcome the moral and spiritual pollution of the youth who are victims of this vast conspiracy.

It is surprising that the authorities are helpless in the face of all kinds of troubles generated by this deadly satanic musical wave. Old truth: “Disrupt the youth and you will defeat the nation.”

From this quick review of scientific data, we see that rock and roll is not a variety, not another genre of music: it is anti-music, because not only does it not carry all the spiritual richness that is associated with this type of art, not only does it not cultivate goodness, love, friendship - all those high feelings that elevate a person and lead society to progress, but rock and roll, on the contrary, cultivates the basest, most negative feelings in a person, corrupts his morality and discards his intellectual development is far back. Moreover, by developing anger and pathological sexuality, rock music destroys people and leads to the degradation of society.

The power of rock music is aimed at the moral decay of youth; its program itself, its design and even its details contain the most perfect forms and methods for bringing listeners to moral decay and nurturing everything that is most negative and evil in a person. It is enough to give at least the content of those songs that are performed to the sounds of rock music. Here is an excerpt from the song "God of Thunder":

"I was raised by a demon,
Prepared to rule like him.
I am the master of the desert, a modern iron man.
I collect darkness to please myself.
I command you: kneel before the God of Thunder, the God of Rock and Roll."

In order to subjugate listeners, to force them to perceive what is contrary to the very human essence, rock musicians, in addition to the frantic, frenzied noise and thunder that suppress the psyche, use lighting effects in the form of a strobe light, which is not a prop, but part of a satanic weapon against youth. With the help of a strobe, it is possible to alternate between light and darkness, which leads to a significant weakening of orientation and the ability to judge. When light-dark alternation occurs at a frequency of 6-8 Hz, this causes a loss of depth of perception. If the alternation frequency reaches 25 Hz, the ability to concentrate is lost. With a further increase in frequency, there is a loss of all ability to control.

The combination of rock music with the play of strobe light leads to the violation of all barriers of moral judgment. The personality loses its reflexes and natural defense mechanisms.

When using exclusively specialized technical means, the human being experiences violence against his protective means and freedom of judgment. Hence the mental, moral and spiritual damage experienced by the audience listening to rock music.

Considering that the beat causes an acceleration of the heart rate and an increase in the content of adrenaline in the blood, it can not only cause an appropriate reaction from the sexual sphere, but also strong excitement, reaching the point of intoxication, which is how rock musicians influence young people, and what leads to sharp decline general moral level.

Thus, it must be admitted that The increased media attention to rock music cannot be assessed other than as a path to the moral decay of youth. This danger is very great and it is constantly increasing. Many who in one way or another propagate or contribute to the propagation of this corrupting music stubbornly insist that a ban can only increase the interest of young people, but the point is not only about the ban. We must first stop promoting this music. And most importantly, we need to contrast it with real music. Fill television time and radio with classical, folk, folk, thematic, etc. music. in the best possible way. And give it not in the morning, when everyone is at work, not after midnight, but at the time when we broadcast performances of rock and roll ensembles, that is, from 18 to 22 hours. And rock and roll should be completely excluded from television and radio programs.

“We need an active fight against rock music, even more offensive than the aggression of the Illuminati. If we want our children and grandchildren to live to old age at all...”

A person’s intelligence depends on what kind of music he listens to... While other scientists are researching proper nutrition for weight loss, mysterious “British scientists” have made a sensational statement that intelligence quotient (IQ) directly depends on what style of music a person likes. Everyone knows that the level of intelligence, which has long been measured using the IQ (intelligence quotient), depends on musical preferences. Scientists selected subjects with whom they conducted a series of tests and surveys. The main point of the research was to determine which styles of music negatively affect a person’s mental abilities. Most likely, British scientists entered into a conspiracy with the parents of rebellious teenagers, since the list of potentially dangerous directions for intelligence included the most common and beloved trends among young people. By the way, scientists quickly identified an interesting trend using tests. The lowest results in IQ tests were shown by those who have been interested in hip-hop and r’n’b for many years. Thus, rappers were called the most “close-minded” among all the subjects. For the tests, we used a classic questionnaire to determine IQ, as well as a traditional test according to the school curriculum, which included fundamental general educational material. Their peers who prefer classical and symphonic music had higher rates. Much to the chagrin of parents, THOSE CHILDREN WHO LIKE HEAVY MUSIC AND ROCK HAVE ONE OF THE HIGHEST INTELLIGENCE LEVEL INDICATORS. There is a very close connection between people's musical preferences and different types personality, say British psychologists who surveyed 36 thousand people from around the world. This study is considered the largest ever conducted. Judging by its results, classical music fans are timid and shy, while heavy metal fans are kind and laid-back. During the study, scientists interviewed 36 thousand people from around the world. They had to rank 104 musical styles in order of personal preference and answer questions to determine their personalities. Some of the results of the study were unexpected for scientists: “One of the facts that surprised us most is that people who love classical music and heavy metal are very similar. Both of them are creative and laid-back individuals, but not very sociable,” says one of the professors. “There is a stereotype in society of a hard rock fan as a person in deep depression with suicidal tendencies, it is generally accepted that rockers are dangerous elements of society. In fact, they are harmless and even useful for society as a whole. These are very subtle natures,” adds the scientist. Musical styles and characteristic character traits of their fans:

The influence of rock music on human intelligence. This is interesting!

Rock increases intelligence, although it doesn't sound loud. This conclusion was reached by physiologists from the Institute of Higher nervous activity and neurophysiology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, studying the effect of music on brain function. As the institute reported, a group of volunteers aged from 22 to 47 years took part in the study. Volunteers listened to classical music (Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, etc.) and rock music (including those performed by the Rolling Stones) with headphones on. And in parallel, the subjects looked at the monitor, recognizing what kind of pictures were shown on it. It turned out that under the influence of some pieces of music, people’s brain function improved, while others worsened it. Even the volume of the sound mattered. It turned out that the brain reacts to classical works in the same way as to solving problems or listening to texts. The thinking process improves if such music is played loudly - in the range of 40 to 60 decibels. Rock stimulates mental activity and memory at a quiet sound - no more than 30 decibels. If you turn it on loudly, it increases emotional stress and anxiety, and also suppresses the intellect.

************************************

Do you still think that hard rock is music for gloomy teenagers? Or that classical music is preferred by calm and sophisticated people? Are pop and R’n’B mostly listened to by partygoers and fun-loving people?

Scientists have been studying the relationship between a person’s musical preferences and his character, intelligence and mood for many years. Believe me, the results of their research can surprise you. Let's start with the fact that rockers... These are sophisticated people with a high IQ. According to the results of various tests of intelligence and erudition, they surpassed even fans of symphonic music. And those who listen to pop music are hardworking and efficient. Unexpected, right?

In the not so distant eighties, rockers in our country were equated almost to Satanists. Gloomy guys and girls in leather jackets with studs struck fear into the surrounding grandmothers and young mothers. Because of the attributes and inherent rebellious spirit of rockers, a stereotype has become stronger in the minds of ordinary people: fans of this music are dangerous, almost asocial individuals. They ride rumbling motorcycles, rattle chains, drink alcohol... In general, it was clear to everyone that a decent person should stay away from such a company and from their rumbling music.

Cultured and educated people were required to listen to classical music, or, as a last resort, blues or jazz. Fans of simple songs about love and other pop music were treated a little more leniently, but they were considered slackers who could only go to dance parties.
Another popular belief was that funny music lifts the mood, while sad and gloomy melodies, on the contrary, drive depression. This myth persists to this day. Try admitting to your friends and family that you are in a bad mood, depressed, or have troubles in your love life - and then play a tearful song. There will definitely be a person who will tell you: “Why are you poisoning your soul, turn on something more fun!”

All of the above are examples of various stereotypes about the connection between the music a person listens to and his lifestyle and character. At some point, scientists became interested in the question. They decided to test whether there really is a relationship between music and character, emotional state and even – who knows, the level of intelligence of her listeners. And if so, which one? The results of their research were a big surprise.

The fact that music really affects mood is unlikely to surprise anyone. But not everyone knows that in bad mood It is not recommended to listen to major melodies. No, there is, of course, a certain category of people for whom this really helps - but there are not many of them. The fact is that the dissonance between the performer’s mood and yours can drive you into even more major depression. But hysterical songs, oddly enough, in such a state give a feeling of empathy. So if your friend is sad and listens to sad ballads about death and the futility of existence, do not bother him. Perhaps this is his personal way of therapy. As soon as he feels better, he will certainly turn on “Don’t worry, be happy.”

What about the connection between music and character? In 2008, scientists from Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh), led by Professor Adrian North, head of the department of applied psychology, decided to test whether musical preferences are associated with the intelligence and character of listeners. During the study, scientists interviewed 36 thousand people from around the world. To determine the level of intelligence of volunteers, they used classic tests on IQ, as well as a list of questions about the program secondary school. Perhaps scientists colluded with parents and decided to prove to teenagers that listening to heavy music and rap is unsafe for their brains.
The results surprised the researchers themselves. There really is a connection between music and character type. But what!

“One of the things that surprised us the most is that fans of classical music and hard rock are very similar,” admitted the author of the experiment, Adrian North. To the delight of teenagers and to the chagrin of parents, most high intelligence demonstrated by fans of classical music... and rock and roll! Their performance was equal. What a gap in educational practice! Now you can’t tell your son or daughter: “Don’t listen to heavy metal, otherwise you’ll become stupid, better turn on Mozart.”

However, as life shows, in adulthood many rockers become familiar with classical works. But they don’t forget rock and roll. Not surprisingly, the characteristics of fans of both genres were similar. “Both are creative, laid-back individuals, but not very sociable,” say the researchers.

In addition, rock lovers turned out to be quiet, sensitive introverts. “In society, there is a stereotype of a hard rock fan as a person who is deeply depressed and suicidal, and it is generally accepted that rockers are dangerous elements of society,” says North. - In fact, they are harmless, and even useful for society as a whole. These are very subtle natures.”

The most narrow-minded, alas, were fans of rap, hip-hop and R’n’B. They showed the lowest results on IQ tests. But they, like reggae fans, demonstrate enviably high self-esteem and good communication skills. Fans of jazz and blues also do not suffer from self-criticism. Their summary characteristics were found to be: “Confident, creative, sociable and laid-back.” Moreover, blues fans for the most part turned out to be kind, but for some reason scientists kept silent about the kindness of jazz players...

Classical music lovers were described as confident, creative and relaxed introverts, while opera lovers were described as confident, creative and kind. Those who love dance music, for the most part, turned out to be creative and sociable, but tough people.

Indie fans, according to the researchers, are people “with low self-esteem, creative, not very hardworking, tough.” Who would have thought, right? And reggae listeners have high self-esteem, are sociable, kind, but not too hardworking. And the funny thing is that it was pop fans who turned out to be the most hardworking. Only those who love country music can compete with them in diligence. In a word, the Soviet grandmothers were all wrong. Rockers are quiet and intelligent people, and “those who like to jump in discos”, it turns out, are the most hard-working!

**************************
I’ll add on my own that I’ve been listening to rock music since childhood and I’m neither a fool nor a Satanist.

Numerous studies leave no doubt that music can influence the human psyche. Some compositions inspire us, others cause euphoria, others, on the contrary, depress us... Let's look at the influence of various musical genres and styles on us. Here are the results of scientific experiments.

"Mozart effect"

It is believed that classical music is most beneficial for the brain. During the research, volunteers were given the music of Mozart to listen to and their brain activity was scanned using equipment. It turned out that Mozart's works activated all areas of the brain, including vision and motor coordination. Otolaryngologist Tomatis Alfred explains this phenomenon by saying that Mozart sounds at a high frequency of five to eight thousand hertz, which stimulates brain activity.

However, Yao Dezhong, a professor at the Institute of Life Science and Technology at the University of Radio Electronics and Technology of China from Chengdu, and his colleagues did not obtain such clear results regarding the “Mozart effect.”

They divided 60 experimental students into three groups, one of which listened to Mozart's compositions in the usual performance, and the other in a “mirror” image, that is, from end to beginning. The third group was the control group. Subsequently, all participants were asked to complete three tasks - find a way out of the maze, cut out crafts from paper, and also make three-dimensional figures from it.

The first group actually coped with the tasks better than the control group, but the one that listened to Mozart “on the contrary” showed worse results.

It's all about rhythm, scientists believe. “Under the influence of Mozart’s music, the number of neurons in the brain increases, and when listening back to the sonata, there are fewer of them, and the awareness of behavior decreases,” comments one of the authors of the study, Professor Xia Yang.

Pop music

Psychologists believe that “pop music” has a positive effect on people who lack romance in their lives, who are looking for their soulmate, or who are unhappy in love. Popular songs give them the right mood, making it easier to build relationships or break up with former lovers.

But this applies to ordinary people. But if you are engaged in science or creativity, then it is better not to listen to such music, experts say. It will only load your brain, which will further lead to degradation.

Hard Rock

Hard rock songs usually sound at low frequencies. British researchers have come to the conclusion that if you constantly listen to bass guitar compositions and repetitive rhythms, it destroys the human psyche. This is why rock fans, many of whom are teenagers and young people, so often commit crimes and suicides, start taking drugs, become depressed, have problems communicating... It’s not for nothing that rock is sometimes even called “suicide music”...

Jazz

In principle, jazz compositions cannot have any negative impact. Jazz simply relaxes, helps you forget about pressing problems for a while... Therefore, listening to jazz is useful when you need relaxation or you need to calm down.

Rap

Testing has shown that rap fans have, on average, a lower IQ than those who prefer other musical styles. This is explained by the fact that while listening to rap songs, brain activity decreases. And the lyrics evoke negative emotions in many listeners. Although there are individuals whom rap, on the contrary, motivates and inspires... It all depends on the specific individual.

Music of sex

Canadian musician and composer Rory Weiner, who lives in Tokyo, conducted an experiment on transforming… movements during sex into music.

“In this experiment, I turned sexual movements into sound,” Weiner writes in his blog, “to do this, I installed piezoelectric sensors on my body and the body of my partner. Each sensor sent a signal,

transformed into a specific note and sound. We heard these sounds, so the music and the movements influenced each other."

The recorded composition became part of Weiner's new project called Sex, Sensors and Sound(“Sex, sensory and sound”).

Musicality of extroverts

Not long ago in TheJournalofResearchinPersonality was published Research Article, which showed that musical ability is associated with traits such as openness and sociability.

More than seven thousand volunteers participated in the study. The experimenters tested their musical abilities, in particular the ability to reproduce listened melodies and a sense of rhythm. All participants also passed psychological test The Big Five, which includes such basic personality traits as extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness and neuroticism.

It turned out that the more open and sociable a person was, the greater success he made in the field of singing and playing musical instruments. This was probably because extroverts are not afraid to express themselves.

If you miss the long-winded introductions about the positive influence of classical music and the details various studies, we get the following. In psychology there is such a term as “AUDITORY PATHWAY”. This is the path from the beginning of the sound to the result, which is achieved by irritating one or more nerve centers brain Every word, piece of music or just sound has its own auditory pathways. Accordingly, sounds that differ in frequency, rhythm, timbre, and vibration have different effects on a person, because this is directly related to the rhythms of the brain.

Receiving audio information through the organs of hearing, the brain analyzes it by comparing it with its own rhythms. Each person has rhythms at their own frequency. This is why tastes in music are so different. Let's go through the genres.

Rock music.

In many classical works we find information about the harmful effects of rock and similar music on the body. Not surprisingly, in the not-so-distant 80s and earlier, rockers were equated almost to Satanists. In the minds of the “ancestors” the image of terrible, prone to violence, practically asocial personalities was strengthened (which we see in our Nikita), therefore in those years it was common for cultured and educated people to write only “correct” articles.

However, later a curious fact about rock music was discovered - scientists have proven that rockers have the highest IQ of all music lovers.

Modern rock music uses frequencies that affect the brain like narcotic substances, as they combine from ultra-low frequencies of 15-30 hertz to ultra-high frequencies of up to 80,000 hertz. This greatly excites the human nervous system.

The strength of sound also plays a role here. Our ear best perceives sound at 55-60 decibels. A sound of 70 decibels is considered loud. The sound volume at the site, where walls with powerful speakers used during rock concerts are installed, reaches 120 dB, and in the middle of the site up to 140-160 dB. (120 dB corresponds to the volume of the roar of a jet plane taking off in close proximity, and the average values for a player with headphones are 80-110 dB). In this situation, the adrenal glands also secrete a stress hormone - adrenaline. You can imagine the effect on the body. But why it is generally accepted that this is bad, I don’t know. Personally, I am for adrenaline and all sorts of psycho-glitches - we already deal with them every day, so why divide them into “good” and “bad”? This is stupid!

Electronic music, trance

Here, of course, the main role belongs to rhythm. Rhythm is generally one of the most strong ways impact on human body. Simple but powerful rhythms force a person to respond (movements to the rhythm), from ecstasy to hallucinations, from hysteria to loss of consciousness.

The influence of pop music on a person

Well, what can you say about her? Pop music often adapts to heartbeat and rather slows it down than vice versa, unless of course it’s party music. I don’t see much psychotropism in this music, and I don’t see any evidence to the contrary either. Here the effect is more “pleasant” - “not pleasant”. The words resonate or not. In pop music, music has never been a strong point. In general, it is “believed” that popular music has an extremely negative effect on intelligence. No offense to anyone, but I personally have been convinced of this more than once - it’s called “sliding” for a reason...

Jazz music influence

Jazz has virtually no effect on a person’s mental state. He simply relaxes in the “waves” of this musical direction. But relaxation very quickly “evaporates” and dissolves in the melody of the music. You too can dissolve with them. But on one very small condition. Condition: this music is close to you. That’s why he has so few followers, that’s why this is music of taste, but I want to note that it’s excellent, because in this music a person is not looking for sensations, he enjoys the music itself

The influence of classical music on a person

All the most best words Of course, they give themselves over to this musical formula. There is an opinion that classic style music is ideal for the individual and society as a whole. It harmonizes feelings, thoughts, mind, emotions, and drives away all sorrows from you. Whatever you listen to, find something of your own in classical or contemporary instrumentals. How good it is, you will find enough information on the net.

The influence of rap and hip-hop style on the psyche

In turnip, rhythm and words are in the foreground. Those. he can trance in his own way. But at the same time, the leading role here is given to the texts and the key is rather their subtext. I love rap, but its influence is more at the pop level - words decide everything, there is no sound depth here. They make you freeze, and they can turn the essence of the rhythm into fun.

Horror movie soundtracks.

The main purpose of music for these films is to evoke fear, unpleasant emotions and create tension. To achieve this goal, periodic structures and their synchronization must be disrupted in this music. Horror films can create fear and anxiety in many people, the main thing is to have more tension and surprise in the sounds.

Something like this. Let’s not forget that music affects a person’s psyche depending on what kind of person he is. He chooses what is closest to him. Actually, that’s why you can often recognize a person’s characteristics through music. Personally, if I want to learn more about a person, I definitely look at his audio recordings. There is something to pull out from his psychotype.

By the way, another fact has been established that in people, rabbits, cats, guinea pigs and dogs can change under the influence of music blood pressure, the heart rate increases, and the rhythm and depth of respiratory movements decreases until breathing stops completely. Among other dogs, for some reason these changes are stronger in dogs from the Pinscher breed group than in other dogs. I don't know why, but it's interesting.
