Friso baby food is produced by the Dutch company FrieslandCampina, which began in 1871 when individual farmers decided to work together in regional associations. At first there were two separate companies - Friesland (region in the north of the Netherlands) and Campina (region in the south of the Netherlands). As a result of their unification in 2008, FrieslandCampina emerged, which today is an international dairy farmer cooperative. The company produces wide range products and one of its leading brands is Friso baby food, which has been among the most popular in Russia for 25 years.
Types of Friso formulas for healthy children
They are divided into “Friso Gold”, “Frisolak Gold”, “Friso Junior” and “Frisolak”. The first two are produced in metal cans with a net weight of 400 and 800 g, the second two - in paper boxes net weight 400 g.
All Friso formulas for healthy children, depending on the age of the child, have a so-called infant formula formula number, which is indicated by the numbers: 1,2,3,4. Each room has its own composition, selected depending on the baby’s needs nutrients and energy in a certain age period.
The range of infant formula in metal jars marked “Gold” includes the following products:
- dry adapted initial milk formula “Frisolac Gold New beginnings 1” for children from birth to 6 months;
- dry adapted subsequent milk formula “Friso Gold First steps 2” for children from 6 to 12 months;
- dry milk drink “Friso Gold Young Explorer 3” for children from one to three years old;
- dry milk-based drink “Friso Gold Bright Star 4” for children aged three years and older.
There are only three mixtures in paper boxes:
- dry adapted milk formula “Frisolac 1” for children from birth to 6 months;
- dry follow-up milk formula “Frisolac 2” for children from 6 to 12 months;
- baby milk "Friso Junior 3" for children from one to three years old.
The packaging design of mixtures marked “Gold” underwent significant changes in 2016.
- Besides appearance, the lid on the jar has changed - it has become hinged with a latch.
- There is a special plastic level inside, by running a spoon with the mixture along it, you can easily remove the excess.
- After use, the measuring spoon is placed on the holder inside the jar so that in the future it can be easily taken from there without getting your hands dirty in the mixture, which is undoubtedly a plus in terms of the hygiene of the preparation process.
- The packaging of the mixtures has become brighter, more beautiful and noticeable.
Now each mixture formula differs not only in number, but also in color:
- blue – mixture formula 1;
- green – mixture formula 2;
- orange – mixture formula 3;
- purple – mixture formula 4.
Composition of Friso mixtures
These products have a good composition, which is selected in accordance with modern ideas about. The mixtures are based on products obtained from cow's milk (demineralized whey, skim milk, whey protein concentrate).
Protein
The initial dry adapted milk formulas “Frisolac Gold New beginnings 1” and “Frisolac 1” have an optimal ratio of whey proteins and casein for mature human milk of 60:40; in the subsequent milk formulas “Friso Gold First steps 2” and “Frisolac 2” this ratio is 50:50.
Products for older children "Friso" are no longer milk substitutes, therefore the ratio of whey protein and casein as in breast milk is no longer maintained there and is the same as in cow's milk 20:80 and in "Friso Gold Bright Star 4" not indicated at all.
The amino acid composition of the protein of all Friso mixtures is enriched with the amino acid taurine.
Not all children are able to tolerate cow's milk protein well, which is different from human milk protein. For such children, special “Friso” mixtures with or have been developed.
Carbohydrates
The carbohydrate composition of Friso mixtures for children under one year of age is represented by lactose (milk sugar), maltodextrin and oligosaccharides.
The only unnatural component of human milk here is maltodextrin. It is obtained by hydrolysis of starch. Maltodextrin is a safe carbohydrate that is used in baby formula, making the formula thicker and more filling. If your baby often experiences regurgitation, then the Friso line includes an anti-regurgitation mixture.
In Friso products after a year, carbohydrates include lactose, glucose and sucrose. Sucrose is a substance that can enhance the effect food allergens. In this regard, if a child is prone to allergies, it is worth thinking about the consequences of purchasing these products.
Important! Prebiotics are only available in Friso mixtures labeled “Gold”.
Fats
The milk fat of cow's milk has a different composition compared to breast milk, therefore, for the preparation of milk formulas, most manufacturers remove it, replacing it with fats and oils that contain essential fatty acids. The fat composition of all Friso mixtures includes vegetable oils, as well as trace amounts of milk fat. Such an important component as fish oil, rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, as well as unicellular fungal oil (Mortierella alpina), rich in arachidonic acid, is present only in mixtures marked “Gold”.
Important! All Friso mixtures marked “Gold” contain the addition of fish oil and oil of single-celled fungi (Mortierella alpina).
Vegetable oils in the mixtures are represented by palm oil, low erucic rapeseed oil, sunflower oil, and the “Gold” mixtures are supplemented with palm kernel oil. Thus, all Friso mixtures contain palm oil, which, according to recent research, can reduce the absorption of calcium and cause constipation.
Palm kernel oil is rich in lauric acid, which is also quite abundant in coconut oil, so you can add one of these oils at the manufacturer's discretion.
Many parents are often worried about the presence of rapeseed oil in the mixture, frightened by its component erucic acid (it is known to have a toxic effect on the heart muscle). Friso mixtures contain only low-erucic rapeseed oil, in which the concentration of erucic acid is minimal and cannot harm the baby.

All the necessary vitamins and minerals are selected in the Friso mixtures so as to meet the needs of their children age group. Whether you choose a formula labeled "Gold" or not, you can rest assured that your newborn will receive the essential minerals and vitamins it needs.
All Friso milk formulas, with the exception of Friso Junior 3, are enriched with the addition of five types of basic breast milk nucleotides.
The needs for nucleotides in infancy are high, and the body cannot synthesize them in sufficient quantities on its own, so additional supply from the outside is necessary. These compounds are involved in many biochemical processes in the body, having a beneficial effect on the immune system and beneficial microflora. Among the range of Friso mixtures, only mixtures after a year contain flavor identical to natural vanillin and soy lecithin (E476). Thus, the initial and subsequent adapted Friso mixtures do not contain this flavoring and food additives
. Mixtures not marked “Gold” contain an acidity regulator – citric acid (E330).
A useful additive in the mixtures “Friso Gold Bright Star 4” and “Friso Gold Young Explorer 3” are probiotics - beneficial lacto- and bifidobacteria (Lactobacillus paracasei, contain 1x105 KOE/g, Bifidobacterium BB12, contain 1x105KOE/g).
The initial and subsequent Friso mixtures have a fairly high osmolality - 310 mOsm/kg, and in the Friso Gold Bright Star 4 mixture this figure reaches 442 mOsm/kg. Osmolality is the sum of soluble components that affect osmotic pressure. High osmolality causes sodium retention in the body due to the reduced ability of the child’s kidneys to transport it until the end of the first year of life.
